Metro Salmon = First Salmon

Headed out yesterday morning to hit up some rumoured / photographed Metro Salmon with some resident FW gurus.

Now since 2011, I have caught a few dozen herring, a big snook and a Tailor...3 years and 14 days later after my first brag worthy catch, in the metro area no less, with the city in sight, 3 x 60cm + Salmon.

The morning involved two spots, the first having one hookup, a bent hook and shattered hopes. Per my normal fishing abilities, I was able to find the herring and had a rolling mountain of them chasing a Ricter plug. The the leed boat managed to get a couple then it all went quiet.

We (three boats) then headed to the next spot, where there were already a pile of boats similar to D9 when the Snapper season is about to end.

After a few casts are managed to hook something which I was having a great play with until snap the fishing WA Xtreme line snaps.

After a few more casts and seeing the fish stalking my plug it all went quiet, but I looked up to see a group of boats casting into what looked like weed, with lots of splashing.

Quick tonk over and it was all on. 5 or so boats, more at times, with each boat having a hook up at times. A hook up per cast at times, with some flicking lures. Managed to land three, and kept two with snapper coming up to boats within 20m of me.

I had to head in due to other commitments, so with a barrel full of fun, before 11, I am once again addicted.

Great day out. Cost $10 in ice, $15 in fuel and one lure due to shit line. Totally worth so much more.

Big thanks of the FWers for letting me play along And another big thanks to the bloke who helped me get the boat back on the trailer at Woodies Point. Fishing alone means that retrieve takes a bit longer. As I was backing down the ramp, the bloke behind me in the queue had my boat ready to go and brought it up to the trailer as I was backing down.

Yep, I mean Salmon, or SALAMI as otherwise shouted. I was reeling in Salmon with boats around me with one bloke a couple of boatlengths away pulling in a pinkie.

Very productive patch of ocean

I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

Mon, 2014-05-19 16:16

The Poo Brown dog fell in for the first time in a while actually. She climbs up on the gunnel and even with the grippy paint, she digs claws in and falls overboard. Motor off, lines in, pull her in, jump out of the way as she shakes and get going again as she climbs back up...

She just loves casting. Doesn't really give a toss about the fish, though she gave the Salmon a mouth full, just wants to be in on the action. Not always helpful.
