I have been surviving on a GME GR100, very simple AM/FM unit that has served us well. It has provided us with a radio but tomorrow I am going to buy a new setup with CD and Ipod connectivity with more noise!!

Agree as well, infact mine came with one and I took it out, so no one could switch it on while we were out there.

Agreed

Fri, 2010-12-17 17:51

Have to agree with you there Paul, we hear enough crap during the day so its giving the ears a break while we relax. If there is anything important the phone will ring or get a call over the radio.

totally agre also

no radio for us either, time on the water is to relax, listen to nature and hopefully catch a nice fish or two.  Also have the mobile on just in case we are needed or Leeman Sea Rescue needs to call us over the radio, re: emergencies.

Fri, 2010-12-17 20:22

I bought a standard car stereo and put it in a waterproof casing recessed it into side panels and wired that into an external battery so it doesnt drain the cranking battery and it works a treat. Cost me about $200 all up I think.

 C'mon boys, dead silence

Fri, 2010-12-17 21:24

C'mon boys, dead silence doesn't help you catch any more fish!! Nothing wrong with a bit of background noise.

You haven't heard Jesse on the radio, you might want one to drown him out.

gotta agree with others, my boat came with a radio and rarely gets turned on, when it does it is usually when we are cruising in at 30knts. we go out to relax with the peace and quiet.  sometimes when we are out there there is hardly any talk

Like a few members have already stated, GME products fail often and we dont stock them anymore. Ryans had multiple GME VHF radios, 27meg radios a CD player etc on his two boats stuff up> crapola so definately look at other brands.

Fusion rocks

Sun, 2010-12-19 10:46

Go fusion, get one with the built in ipod dock. no more worrying about cd's or music skipping when flying accross the top of the chop to your best of van halen album.

They may cost a bit more than your average marine cd player, but just riip it out when you uprade your boat and put it in the new one.

I got mine from the states. just under $300 plus freight.

cheers

We always have the tunes pumping, even in shallow creeks for barra. Still catch heaps, so I doubt it affects them.
