Lots of laughs, lots of weed - not many fish on Fishwrecked 4WD adventure
A convoy of nine cars of Fishwrecked members, families and friends headed up the coast to meet up for a 4wd and fishing weekend on Saturday to the north of Two Rocks.
We followed the long and winding road to Loonies, only to find that the coastline was awash with seaweed.
I don't think I have seen much worse conditions due to the amount of weed that filled the waters for as far as you could see.
Not to be daunted, the intrepid adventurers (after a few small incidents involving bogged cars and such) set up camp near a prime location.
Out came the fishing gear and the keen anglers hit the water, but it soon became apparent that the weed was going to be the winner.
After several hours of pulling in several tonnes of weed it was decided it was time to cook up a feed and then settle down around the fire to have afew dinks, tell have a few yarns, have a lot of laughs and discuss our hopes that things would be better in the morning.
Highlights of the evening was Uncle Stus quality fire, his dacking of Graham M, some friendly banter across the fire and then a short tussle between Graham M and a stingray that was lost when many kilos of weed attached itself to Graham's line.
The next morning looked just about perfect wind wise for some fishing action, but unfortunately the weed situation had not improved.
Uncle Stu managed a few herring, while the rest of tried our luck for some tailor - but it was not to be.
While the fishing was disappointing, I am sure that all who participated had a lot of fun and are looking forward to the next time we head up that way.
Thanks Sherbs for organising the day and thanks everyone who participated.
What a great bunch of people (and dog).

I think Banjo had the best time of all
Sausages and meat balls and lots of people to throw his ball.
I am still laughing that he wouldn't eat Topper's pickled egg.

Yes, it was a lot of fun even if the fishing was messed up by
the weed. The best part was meeting a few new people and catching up with some old faces. As I said above, what a great bunch of people.

Thanks for a great night out
Thanks for a great night out we had a blast pity about the fish it was good to put some faces to the names. And yes my subie got stuck but shit happens and i did get further up the beach than the prado i think if no one got stuck we wernt trying hard enough cause its not 4 wheel driving if no one gets stuck. The trip out in the morning was long its a long drive into loonies and seems even longer on the way out. When we pumped up the tyres Mal got a Tick on his leg the little buggers were scampering around on the sand. Thanks very much Sherbs for organizing the trip i very much appreciate it as im sure everyone else did too.

Ticks
always works for me. smother the bastards with vasoline, then get a strip of duct tape and cover the area. leave it for an hour or two, then pull off the duct tape and the whole tick should come out, head and all. another method, is to get a peice of string, make a loop about the size of the tickes ass. you then loop the string over the tick and pull both sides of the string and pull the tick out. apparently getting a lighter and burning the ticks ass also works, as it makes them freak out and let go from the skin, as they die. hipe it helps Stu and good luck hahaha

Mal ended up with one too
Mal ended up with one too and unfortunately he knocked it off its head.
like Leemo said but not sure about the duct tape just smother it with vasoline as they breath out there ass and they will back out. dont pull on them as you will pull their heads off and that means a trip to the Drs

Ticks
Dont rip them out, it will leave the head in and you will get a itchy spot there for up to a year. It is called a tick granuloma for those interested.
Yes the best way is for the tick to move itself out of the bite site. Snuffocating (thats what I call it because it will suffocate and hopefully snuff it at the same time) it with vaso or any ointment will start to suffocate it, and it will try and move, and then it hopefully will just kark it.
Other methods not as recommended, but there is lots of wives tales and weird remedies but the vaso is what I would do.
If it was possible ask Colin McRae how many he had on him whilst testing for Rally Oz one year, and his brother Alsitair and Colin's co-driver Nicky Grist wasn't far behind. Vaso-ed them up and they all went waltzing matilda.

medicos say pull!
All the medical experts say that the best way to remove the tick is to use fine tweezers and grip as close to skin as possible and gently pull. All the quack remedies (vasoline, match, kero, metho etc etc) don't work. In fact they reckon that things like vasoline and metho irritate the ticks and make them glue themselves in or puke more toxins into you. here's a couple of examples, but google will find you heaps http://medent.usyd.edu.au/fact/ticks.htm#remove or http://www.lyme.org/removal.html. Note the second one says if the head breaks off - dig it out or leave it and the head come out on its own like a splinter (I've had hundreds of the buggers and always take the second approach). Note also that Lyme disease probably doesn't occur in Australia.

Working in the field
The tweezer trick is appropriate, but you have to pay a doc to do it. Doing it at home you have a great chance of ripping off the head.
There is a huge difference between eastern states and and here. We dont have paralysis tics over here. In the eastern states if the head is left in it is far better to remove it surgically with a small excision. And it is also important to get the tic out. The kangaroo tics we have over in WA are fairly benign and if the head is left in will cause a itchy spot but no other problems.
The Vasoline trick over here certainly works well enough without having to fork out and see a doc to pull it off. Lyme disease does not occur in Australia.
The "father" off all GPs in Australia is Prof. John Murtagh and his books are on almost very doctor desk somewhere : "John Murtagh
I recently spent three days as the doctor at our year 5/6 school camp. My main task was tick removal. Most succumbed quietly to Vaseline suffocation, followed by removal with fine tweezers."
For a "bush" remedy still try the Vaso trick, and if the problem persist, see your doctor.

fair enough mate - just
fair enough mate - just stating the general medical consensus and current first aid protocol. Don't know why you need to see a doc? pretty easy to get some fine tweezers and do it yourself - and if the head stays in - sure it might be itchy for a while - but as you say, no paralysis, no Lyme, so it's not much more than a splinter. Seems that Murtagh uses the vaso to kill them before pulling anyway.
