As soon as you get a good fish while doing it, your confidence level will soar, your effort will step up because of it, and the fish will become easier to catch.
If you know where some dhufish are, any jig will work. The more expensive Japanese ones, like Shouts and Evergreens, have sensational inbuilt action and will do most of the work for you...only need to slowly jig them up off the bottom 10 or so metres and then let them flutter back down again. Cheaper models, like Sea Rocks and Vortexes, require a bit more physical effort but will still catch fish.
All I can say is, vary your retrieve, work the rod erratically, keep the jig near the bottom, assuming it's demersals you're after.
