Live Baits - Advice Needed.

Hey guys,
Nearing the weekend, and have been thinking about live baits, casting from shore.
On a smaller live bait say, small whiting size, how would I go abouts baiting the fish onto a hook (or two) without killing the fish
I'd be targeting big tailor and stuff, and would like to know the best way to do it, and what size hooks should I use for tailor sized fish.
Thanks!

just make sure u dont put the hook thou the spine..i normally put a 8/0 just above the spine behind the head..i'v never live baited for tailor but i have been told they like to come up from behind so you have to have your hooks set further back on the bait..

baiting
i'm no expert but i think fish will generally try disable its prey then eat it, thats why they take out the tail first.
but they generally like to eat another whole fish head first because it goes down easier.

Dont
dont put your hook through the lips as it needs water to breathe and that will close the mouth, i would snell 2 hooks, small one up front and slightly bigger live bait hook at the end. put the small hook through its nostril or the shoulder of the fish and cable tie or ghost string/lacky band the end hook to the tail. I live bait alot and found at the start that i would come back with a head and/or shoulders of the livie so changed to this. Also i start with a split ring, put in a hook and a swivel then put some trace onto that swivel to the end/stinger hook for the toothys, even add another swivel to split ring and run 300mm of trace back to a swivel and join that to your leader for added protection for super toothys.
