Licenses

Hey everyone
im just getting into some serious fishing for the first time and just wondering if you need a license even though i have no intention on keeping the fish i just want to catch and release?.
If i do need a license what areas do and do not need lisences its confusing me a bit??

you need a licnce just to fish from a boat and that comes into effect next march i think.under 6hp and yak's are exempt all other powered boats require one

so if just fishing from the shore or a jetty i dont need a freshwater or rec license

cheers for the help its all just alittle confusing. i've been really wanting to get ahold of some fresh water fish for a change never actually fished any before

Yeah it is confusing mate, especially bad at the moment.
Unfortunately gone are the days where you can just buy a rod n reel combo, bait up and go for a fish, now its a part time job just trying to keep up with what you can and cant do so you dont end up in the shit.
But thats life hey :) Even though im not that old at least i can remember the times before the hypocracy bullshit took over the simple things in life. Camping on the beach, catching a feed of fish, having a campfire etc etc

simple steps
Is there anyone that can put the main rules into simple steps,,,,, like if im fishing freshwater from the shore or on a jetty do i still need a license to do it? just want to get at least a simple idea of the rules and regulations so i dont get any fines

Anything freshwater you need
Anything freshwater you need a license and watch the seasons ie: Trout, marron. Shorebased saltwater you dont need a license just size and bag limits apply.
