Hey All, As the weather is improving ive been thinking of targeting A landbased YTK, Ive always wanted to catch a Kingy but never really known how all i know is that live squid is good bait.
But I would like to target them on a lure! So if you know any good lures please let me know and how to approach catching them. And what are some good SOR spots? Ive heard you can get them in the swan.
Thanks Alex!!

Yellow tail kingfish
In swan? Never heard of that maby they mean yellow tail live baits haha landbased in perth could be quite the struggle my friend.
We get them on lures every now and then but thats at least 3 mile offshore
Never seen them any closer could be wrong though. Good luck
wont catch em sitting at home!

Don’t believe everything you read on apps
Never heard of a ytk being caught in the swan. Back of rotto would be your best bet shore based, that’s about the best advice I can offer you.

Hahaha
Hahaha Good One With The Crab Nets! The guy probably got it at rotto and either "mislabeled" it or wanted some sucker like me to believe he got one there!
Thanks For the info though think i may stick to something easier on a lure as ive never got anything on a lure!

Radar reef at the back of Rotto is a good spot for them, but only a few times a year. I’ve got most of mine, 99% from the boat.

take a look at the guys on
take a look at the guys on FB that catch them on a regular basis and youll get an idea of whats involved (dixon brothers are a great example) they usually fish south of dunsborough on isolated rock faces that drop into deep water with plenty of white water around to provide cover ... big rods (8' and capable of pe6 minimum) and reels to suit (saragosa 8000 etc or better) . blackwall/point walter would be worth a look in the river with a livie out and if all else fails you might get a jewfish

I say go find them!
fishwrecked.com/forum/swan-river-sambos-1
A couple of refrences here.
I know sydney harbour and lots of other east coast estuarys and rivers get them , so there must be the odd one in the swan,
just like in the past dudes have caught tuna , salmon , small to middling sambos , etc all in the swan.
However these in general are rarish captures , and are probally just not a targettable species per say.
Thats the challenge tho , isnt it? , proving most wrong , and pulling that unexpected fish after leg work and persistance.

around bridges. Sighted fish
around bridges. Sighted fish that look similar, however never got a 100% positive id. Wouldnt be surprised if they were around the lower swan.
Also have caught a small one (30/40cm ish) few years back at a yacht club while reeling in rig, got belted and got dragged around a bit on whiting gear.
Fishing and catching are two different things. But i want to learn how to catch.

Lower swan,the rock wall
Lower swan, the rock wall between zephyr cafe and swan yacht club,or opposite there is a park beside the water police which has the main current running past it.cosidering it's summer and late days you need to go right on dusk with a suspended livie under afloat with maybe a flashing light.
Boat traffic will be your main problem, take a few brews and sit at the end of cape d'orlando drive and watch the water maybe throw some burley in,or even at the end of the rock wall opposite.
end of south mole might be good but all boat traffic coming out of the swan cut the corner and will ruin your chances.
