King Fisher WA

I watched a TV show called King Fishers tonight where three anglers from three countries fish for different species with different methods each having a turn to host the others. My definition of a “King Fisher” is somebody who can adapt their fishing method to catch fish in most conditions. These “fishers” did not fit my definition which got me thinking.

Here’s the go. I believe that I may be a “King Fisher” and hereby throw out the challenge to any aspirant King Fishers out there. The challenge is as follows: Four anglers each chipping in $200 to show commitment. Six disciplines – six sessions of 3 hours each:

Day 1 off the boat on FFB – morning session plastics only, followed by the afternoon session of bait only.

Day 2 from the shores of the Swan – morning session plastics and/or hard-bodies (no bait), followed by the afternoon session with the fly.

Day 3 from Preston Beach – morning session with bait, followed by the afternoon session with lures.

The biggest fish wins each session – 5 points for the winner, 3 points for second and 1 point for third if the person catches a fish. Four co-ordinates for each discipline into a hat which is drawn by a neutral person. Winner takes all, but the catch is he/she has to donate the winnings to a (recognised) charity of their choice. The title of Western Australia’s “King Fisher” will be the accolade. Who knows we may have a tackle dealer sponsoring the effort and the winner may take home some tackle .

I will make my CruiseCraft 625 available for the boat session. Maybe Adam would like to host this under FishWrecked’s banner?
Any bites.....?

New to fishwrecked and just gettign into fishing again after 20 odd years out of the sport. I think this is an awesome idea, and could be an anual event. Unfortunatly i cant fly fish so i would say Im out. But definetly keen to see the this get of the ground. Would be a good anual event and will get people into all types of angling, it has me interested in learning to fly fish and maybe enter something like this in the future.

cheers

The producers asked me if they could use some of my GT footage for one of the shows.  Will be interesting to see if it something from here;

made the final cut.

When/where was the show on?  Assume foxtel (which I don’t have).  Have to see if I can get a copy of the 10 episodes to watch.

Nice idea by the way.

Cheers Pete

Hey Artygunner - I will let you as soon as we get some more contenders for this challenge. There are two of us - another two and we are away.

Adam the idea is to host it over three different weekends, not necessarily consecutive. My missus and I have planned and co-ordinated big angling events in the past and will gladly assist.

That's one way to approach it and a good idea. I like the idea of sending blokes to an area they have not fished before and give them all the stuff they can pick from, fly rod, soft plastics, hard bodies, bait and even a cast net to get their own bait.

The only hint wood be what lives in the system the the rest is up to them. It's then up to them to catch something.

you would have to specify points for fish based on weights and how common they are etc.

Local experts

Good thinking Bunny, maybe we can get Ryan from Oceanside to select the venues - probably one of the most knowledgeable when it comes to our local waters.

The show itself has been a let down so far. Im sure its a UK production which might explain why there's always someone representing the uk/Ireland which imo lets the show down. So far everyone of them are dodgy cheating bastards and they either don't put anyone including themselves on the fish or the fish are ridiculously small.
The Aussie from the NT, all the African trips and the Canadian putting the guys on the sturgeon were great hosts that put the guys on to the fish.
