Mate I only really used to
Mate I only really used to fish Mandurah/Dunsborough/Preston etc on holidays but have started fishing in Perth a lot more and went 3 months fishing Hillarys and Ocean Reef last winter every weekend and sometimes morning and night for 2 measley squid and 6 herring at the North Mole. My first 5 trips in the river with my new dinghy turned up doughnuts and I'd get home to see people cleaning up on flathead and tailor.
From the looks of your previous posts you are recently converted to lure fishing as was I during this time but if you stick with it the rewards will come. My last trips to Pt Walter turned up 2 flatties, a tarwine and heaps of tailor when I came across and followed a school all on lures. Fishing up river I am getting at least 6 good bream a 1hr session on lures and plastics and I've been killing the whiting on poppers in Mandurah. My Wife always jokes about how much I deserve it after bringing home a catch.
Don't lose heart champ and if you aren't catching anything with lures fish the tides and keep tinkering with how you are doing it until you start getting onto some fish and you'll never look back.

Thanks lads ill take you up on that... an wathong vid cheers. Gonna drop my berkly deep diver an try a pink stickbait with 1/16 or 1/20 head up at ascot or maybe try bait.
Will try soft plastics at point w but is prollly throwing em away. These stick baits appatently are really hard wearing.. r.s.t stickbait in a black packet... they are just long pink rubber but teally strong. So will see how fair with blowies.
I wouldnt mind notcatching but the fuel bills killing me lol.
Armadale to canning beach road.to point walter. To ascott jetty. Then armadale... i spent more time on freeway than fishing..
Trust me with two road trains one on each side an my little pulsar...im done making deals with god heh

Hate to say it myself, but
Hate to say it myself, but after last night.......bait trumps lures. Bought myself a new rod on Tuesday and eager to put it to use. After work at 8, called my bro to see if he could get out of the house for an hour. I've hardly used lures at night but I thought I'll give it a go. Got to the spot at 9, used lures for half an hour without a touch. Finally I managed a baby mulloway on a hard body( first for me:)). Anyway my brother brought along a small bag of left over mulies, so he started using bait. He was pulling bream after bream, while I was getting nothing on lures.
So if you are after a feed maybe try using bait and stay away from the lures. I've been fishing them hard over the last few years and only recently I've been getting some results. Even then 5 out 10 times I don't catch a thing. I tend to enjoy just fishing now and if I catch something it's a bonus.

It doesnt matter how good or
It doesnt matter how good or bad you are mate, youre not going to catch a lot of fish land based around Perth. I see you've caught some Bream on lures, so you know what you are doing. You just need to lower your expectations a little perhaps, and enjoy the journey or buy a boat.

It matters what you know &
It matters what you know & what you don't know. There's heaps of fish to be caught regularly landbased if you know what your doing, when to do it & where to do it. Bream, flathead, tailor, whiting, herring, cobbler (not in the river) & squid are the most common targets but if you know what your doing you can add regular catches of mulloway, sharks & even snapper to the list. & that's only the list of good eating fish, you can add plenty more if you are only looking at catch & release excitement. If you reckon there's bugger all landbased around metro then you don't know as much as you think you do.

There are plenty of fish to be caught land based... Just depends what you want to catch. Whiting, herring, tailor are plentiful.

No mate you dont suck at rec. fishing
the swan river sucks FOR rec. fishing! IMO - concentrate on the ocean more - like the rock groins and beaches NOR or as trymyluck said above get a boat, even a tinny can get you out to descent areas like the three mile reef up my way and you will catch fish there. The River is a dead wasteland infested with blowies.

Hahaha, dead wasteland...
Hahaha, dead wasteland... yeah right, the Swan is alive and well I can guarantee you. Sounds like someone is throwing out a prawn into the middle of the river expecting a fish to jump on.

Hi Tassy, can't stand seeing a bloke get despondent about fishing! Me and a mate are going fishing on Saturday night up to Mindarie, we normally do pretty well catching anything from herring to sharks, your welcome to join us, I will even drop by and give you a lift there and back if you want.

Nice tailor
At thistime of year head down to north mole and just baitcast some lightly weighted mulies on a gang at sunset. You are bound to get some tailor up to say 50cm ish and if they are biting well, you might even bag out. Might be good for the confidence!

It all takes time to find
It all takes time to find decent fish in the river unfortunately haha, once you've got a reliable spot you're cheering though just takes a bit of exploring and research.
Maybe head out to Golden Ponds for a day and have a go at something a bit different

Tassy try out some of the reefs along the northern beaches as the weather cools down. Great for big tailor, ive had good success on tailor on stickbaits this summer just off a regular surf beach. Just remember one thing, never give up. Last year i only caught 3 tailor, this year i learnt from my mistakes and have managed over 20 legal ones in a space of 4 weeks.

Be Positive
Hi Tassy,
I think you are limiting your chances by not fishing at night and not using bait.
Lures do work, but I reckon you need to catch some fish quick.(then you won't have time for all the side issues!)
Tailor running sinker rig...on sunset...seabreeze..no wire trace, just good mono leader..metro beaches and yes North Mole.
PM me if you want specifics
Tailor, Skippy, flathead, herring all will take a mulie on a tailor rig.
Good Luck,
Pondy

all the wrong reasons (i think)
The way i see it is if you go fishing expecting to clean up and do well everyday you are well setup to only disappoint yourself. The last 6 times i have been out on my boat with mates and by myself i have been a long way for nothing 150 bucks in fuel nearly every time, but i don't care im doing what i enjoy and not catching anything makes it easier to make up for it on the next trip. Ive spent just under 70 grand in the past 6 months (boat included obviously) on fishing stuff as well but its what i enjoy and you cannot put a price on happiness. Get involved and enjoy the time not the result.

Go for a night fish just once, might surprise yourself
As mentioned above, take your misses to see the scenery and sunset, just go somewhere quiet not crowded like a jetty.
Come school holidays (final year) I should be up for some fishing if you wanna come along?
