Importng a boat from the US !!!

I`m looking to import a boat from the US into Fremantle and was seeking some advise on the best way to do it being the cheapest and safest way.

If anyone has Imported recently and has any phone numbers or companys that they went through and have good reports would be greatly appreciated!!!!

A mate went through Mansfield marine.  Imported a 41'. Had engine trouble 1st time out but they fixed it right away no questions asked.  I wouldn't hesitate using them.

Hi  Lloydy

John O'Neill (Platinum West) helped me bring in my last boat. A Seaswirl Striper 2101. He is brilliant. Doesnt leave anything to chance and keeps you updated all the way. Very reasonable price too.

I will PM his phone number to you.

Cheers

Brad

looks great mate.

we imported a ski boat a few years back and had all sorts of issues, ended up taking the guy to court and won, but it was a 12mth hard slog.

but like your case, if it all goes good, well worth it.

i would do it again, knowing what i know now there would be no probs.

well done mate and a sweet looking rig.

I have imported a Seaswirl 2301 WA and absolutely love it. Started to find some decent ground off Wickham and havent had any dramas with the boat. With the shipping, if its reasonably large I would recommend having it shipped on the trailer on a car carrier. That way it can be transported the way it was designed and not packed into a container. There are q lot of importers around. Worth getting a few quotes for what you need and for the size of boat you are after and see which suits you best. Most of them are pretty helpful. I used Darren from USA2OZ. Hes an aussie living in the states. Good luck. Pretty exciting times. Worth spending the money on an independant surveyor for peace of mind on the boat you choose.

Recent Import

Thu, 2012-08-30 17:00

Just gone through the motions of importing a boat from the US. Purchased a Boston Whaler 255 Conquest in late July, with twin 150HP, 96 hours on clock. Went through Leisure Freight and Import, who perform the end to end service, including sourcing the boat, independent  surveyor report (23 pages), ocean trial, insurance, transit, all logistics, AUS compliant trailer (boat comes in at 3.5 tonne with 'almost full' fuel tank). Their service to the point of making the sale was excellent (as you would expect). Been dissappointed at post sales service so far though. Updates and responses to my emails are few and far between. Boat was supposed to leave US a week ago, but is currently behind schedule (milestones from 4th August still not completed) apparently due to trailer not being ready but reasons still unknown. Am still trying to get to the bottom of where the boat is in the process. Hopefully all works out well, but will keep you posted for whoever is thinking of importing a boat from the US. I estimated the saving at 40% through buying from the US in this case (post shipping/GST costs).

Make sure you get the imPort application

Through the Aus government. Mine had to sit in Fremantle for 5 weeks costing me a fair bit cos Canberra was 'busy'. Get it done before t ships or when it's on the way so its down when your boat gets here.
