Fishing today. 9/9/12
Last minute head rush to go fishing today. Packed the boat and out by 1pm. Found. Spot 5 mins south of hillaries anchored up and burleyed.
Fish in seconds. Heaps butterfish and wrasse. But a few surprises too.
We were using whiting gear hoping for exactly that. A feed of whiting. But this is where we got surprised.
2 very nice mid 50's KGs. Then some juvie snapper (returned), then a spangled emperor!!! Wtf? Are these things common in Perth metro? It was undersized and went back, but a really odd catch. Then the missus had something grab the line and run like mad. I initially called ray, then saw shark!!! We boated a gummy over a meter on 6lb braid! Was stoked. A first on my boat as well.
By this stage we called it a day happy with out massive feed. Gummy all filleted and in freezer bags, the kg is currently being digested.
Great afternoon session. Can't wait to try again.

Sure it was a spanglie rather
Sure it was a spanglie rather than a red throat. Although somewhat rare for Perth waters red throats do show up from time to time.
Sounded like a pretty awesome session on the light gear.

Definitely a spangly. About 25cm long. 1st I've seen around here. Didn't take a pic unfortunately.
Was a great session on light gear.
