How did I bend these hooks?

I'm just getting into jigging for demersals, and had my first go at it on the weekend.
Dropped the jig and wiggled it around a few times, and then hooked up to a good size salmon (near the bottom, in 30m, wtf?)
It shook the hooks loose at the surface, so I dropped again and hooked up to another salmon. Again, this one got off at the surface.
I had a look at the hooks after this, and both of them were bent.
How did I bend these hooks? My drag was set to 4 kg, I don't remember the fish ever pulling drag, and these hooks are supposedly good for 35 lb (15 kg). So what. the. f.
I don't think I can trust these hooks if I hook up to a big dhuey now.

Torium 14 HGA overhead,
Torium 14 HGA overhead, spooled with 40 lb PE2.5 braid, running on an InSalt Flutter Slow Pitch Overhead jigging rod.
I set the drag before going out, set it to 4 kg which I thought would have loads of headroom.

Yep
Had a similar issue with Damiki hooks a few years back , changed to a heavier gauge Harbor assist and never had a problem ,
The next time i see that jig will be in the mouth of something big !!

Thanks for the advice.
Thanks for the advice. Where do you get the Harbor assists? I've had a quick look and can only get them from overseas.

the Harbor assists I buy
the Harbor assists I buy premade, but if I make my own I've found the mustard big guns ...about 6.0 Ok for a cheap alternative.
For perth Ill use only good quality slim assit hooks cos (for me :) hits are not even close to every drop so i want to make the most of hits.
for north where most of my jigging hapens an I have good spots I use the cheaper (but still very strong) big guns.

Thanks Deep South, Busso is half an hour away (I'm in Margs). Pity I didn't know about this problem last Friday, I was in there for the jigging night. Much appreciated.

I found these at the local
I found these at the local tackle store, didn't notice that they were inline when I bought them.
How do you tie these onto the kevlar? If I snell it, then the kevlar will go through the eye, offsetting it a bit.

100% salmon, I got a
100% salmon, I got a positive ID when it jumped out of the water and shook its head (both times). I can tell the difference :-)
Regardless, those hooks shouldn't bend with only 4 kg drag set, if you belive the numbers on the packet. Clearly they aren't accurate.

Absolutely right, they
Absolutely right, they definitely shouldn’t bend. I’ve just not heard of salmon on jigs at 30m

I’ve got salmon bottom
I’ve got salmon bottom bashing in 100m behind rotto. Got 3 or 4 one time. Was a year that they didn’t turn up inshore metro.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?
