Horrocks Beach

I am heading up to Horrocks Beach for the first time at Christmas and was wondering if anyone could give me a bit advice. I am towing up a 5m ally with the thought of launching it off the beach at Horrocks, is this possible? If not then its off to Port Gregory I suppose. When I get out there what species would I expect to find?

decisions, decisions
Horrocks can be a real pain in the ass at times. Steep and soft. Have seen many vehicles having strife retrieving the boat. Other times easy as pie.
Port Gregory is a lot better altho the launching area next to the jetty has filled in with sand. I am sure that someone who has been there recently will give you an un updated report.
Either place, hope you have a great Christmas and catch a few fish. There are good spots off both places.

4WD
If you have a 4wd you will be fine, will be plenty of help available at that time of the year, prepare for 30knot southerlies each day though! All the west coast species are up there plus you get Coral trout, Spanglies etc as well.
Have fun.

Thanks Nauti Bouy, I have a Triton ute 4wd, I spend a bit of time at Ledge so launching off the beach is not new, however I got myself stuck a couple of times, skull dragging now. Not looking forward to the southerlies but still better than being at work and hopeully catch a few fish!

You will need a 4x4 to launch
You will need a 4x4 to launch at horrocks- was up there in august and the ramp didn't look that bad. Should be great fishing up there- make sure you fish the fringe reef in front of town for some big tailor from your boat

Horrocks beach
Yeah a 4wd is essential but there is plenty of top fishing on offer. If your in to trolling use some deep divers along the reef you will pick up trout and even the odd pinkie. There should be a few early spaniards getting around too.
Enjoy the break!

Thanks for the tips Mitchb, cant wait to get up there, I have a Triton 4x4 ute and often fish out of Ledge, normally skull drag the boat to retrieve to avoid getting stuck. I believe that the reef is not too far out? I have a bay hunter quinny with a 40 merc, it sometimes is not too good in a heavy swell, so prefer to stay fairly close, although if a good day happy to go out further.

port gregory need to go up
port gregory need to go up the beach a little (500m or so from the jetty) with launching and retriving, just do swift about it, dont take your time or tralier will start to sink in.
5m ally should be fine. At least at port gregory if the winds howling can fish inside the reef. Tailor, coral trout, baldies and some good sized sambo's in the right places.
Outside there is some sensational fishing, trawl along the back of the reef or reefs north of two rocks for mackies, any good piece of reef out there holds plenty of dhu's, baldies, trout and pinkies.
Last time i was up there drove the boat from port gregory to Kalbarri, awesome drive along the shore there, and some awesome ground to fish. We only had trawling gear and trawled up some mackies, but the sounder was lit up on almost every lump in 10m of water!
