Hillarys boat ramp
Submitted by wifecallsmegrumpy on Sat, 2023-01-21 15:02
Anyone caught up at the ramp this morning ? I was there about 8am and it was a zoo. No parking and people so frustrated, had to think the dhu ban has something to do with it also.
Hope everyone looks out for each other and helps to keep the queue flowing.

Recon there will be more
Recon there will be more frustration trying to get back in...especially sitting there 38 deg after a few tins. Could be worse places to be though...
Surprised how most sit back and watch, doesn't take much to give a quick hand when needed. Things would flow a bit quicker.
Worse tomorrow at a guess..

Brock O any one that takes grog out on a boat these days is as dumb as a post. Look at the problems it cause. ( mandurah estury for example ). if you think your not going to be effected by a couple of tinnies try going to the beach and do a fifty metre swim, then drink your two or four tinnies wait 10 or f15 minutes and try it again, you'll soon see the difference and when things go arse up on the water it happens quickly and a mind fogged by grog doesn't help. Save the grog for when you get home and are enjoying the catch of the day.

Call me dumb then, always a few stubbles on day out fishing, well when I can afford them after fuel anyway.
But I'm out to fish not fkn swim ha..and although my boat could fall apart at anytime I'm sure I'll be fine as I carry a life jacket and extra large eski to hold onto and I watch were I'm driving.

Yer those boys were lucky thats for sure. i get the feeling that things are going to change once again with boating. after the last los of life in mandurah i think they will bring in the compolury life jackets and i would not be surpried to see breath testing starting up on boats and the skipper being the target. still think it's stupid to say that boats over 4.88 meters will not be required to wear them as that is the size and over that run into the most trouble out wide.
You don't hear of many 4 meter boats sinking as they are strikly hampered by weather conditions.
Most young blokes have a few out on the water, i did myself when i was younger ( and drove a car pissed out of my tree ) but i wouldn't do either now, just a bad idea.

i reckon a great thing they
i reckon a great thing they could do with hillary's is make the 2 launch /rerieve ramps, one of either at set times, i.e: just launch before 8, then just retireve after 8 etc.
is a nightmare when massive ques to retrieve, and have boats launching in those lanes, especially as hard for either people retrieving or launching to know whats going on on the opposit e end. creates a bit of confusion.

try launching at safety bay
It must be luxury at hillaries. Bent street when the crays are running or a good weekend in some is absolutey crap not enough parking so trailers are spread down the road for upto half a kilometer then because the dredging of the channel hsa been inadaquate theres not enough water at low tide, Hillaries sound good compared to the shit we have to put up with.

I wrote to DoT suggesting they extend the jetties to allow more boats to dock. Got a firm no on that one

I should have clarified that
I should have clarified that it was DoT that answered but I wrote to my Local Member (Landsdale), Member for Hillarys and Minister for Transport. One of my suggestions they did implement was large, signage on entry informing cars that it's trailer only parking before 12pm.

Ownership of trailer boats
The way I see it ,if you only have a trailer boat you are notpriority on the marine harbours list in short you are not rich enough to deserve great facilities the Marine department/State government are very happy to charge trailer boat owners high registration fees, trailer fess, then pay high fess for launching boat & parking car/trailer,Free parking for single cars parked in trailer bays after 12.00noon inforcment of parking regulation the inspectors always seem to target & inspect the car/trailer first then make their way over to the single vehicals The car/trailer bays are barley sized to allow for the encreasing number of American import type boats trailer towed by the big Dodge ram /Toyota Tundra or GM Silverradoe because thy fill the bays at Hillarys leaving a reduced size exite for other long dual wheel trailers there should be some bays set aside for these lager type pick up /traler
