help me catch flatties

Well ive been going at it for a while now on the lures to catch some flathead.  To date I've only managed 2 hookups with no luck landing them.

The main areas I try are around Matilda Bay in Crawley, Claremont Jetty/yatch club and the Narrows and Canning Bridge (and couple of times at Graham Farmer bridge).

I've been using baby vibes, tt switchblades, halco laser pro in pink, purple and gold with a light set up.

I'm not one to plan my fishing around tides and time of day too much.

So, if anyone has any tips of tides, time of day, other locations and any additional information that you can think of please let me know as its getting frustrating as I have put the hours in and ended up with no results.

 Cheers,

Jay

aren't those more like bream

aren't those more like bream lures??

not to say you won't catch on them but

i'd be using soft plastics bumped along the (sandy) bottom near weed or structure.

if the tide is running they'll prob be lying in wait in the lee of something , ready for anything that gets washed over.

I have seen a few nice flatties sitting near the jetty at Jojos at Nedlands at night.

I have been trying the hardbody lures as I've never caught anything on them.  I'm trying to practice my action etc both for bream and flatties.

Is there any particular action or hb that I can get that have found to work for anyone?

lizards pretty well go for

lizards pretty well go for anything that comes within striking distance mate. they're ambush predators , but you def want your lure to be on ,  or close to , the bottom

if you've had no luck within a few casts , keep walking and casting. cover some new ground.

I reckon flatties are very aware of your prescence, too.  It pays to cast up ahead of you, into an area you haven't walked through yet, kinda like mine sweeping.  A few casts around that area, then walk forward and cast ahead again.  As Grayzee says, bumping along the sand stirs up a little cloud and gets the lizard' s attention.

They like to wait on or just under the lip of a drop-off, or the downstream edge of a channel and let the outgoing tide wash prey towards them.  Always work your lure with the tide; injured bait fish don't swim upstream!  At high tide they're likely to be up on the flats, in suprisingly shallow water.

I love spinning for flatties, but they throw plenty of trebles.  I just use slices or minnows, and lose plenty, but land a few, too.  I know some guys that swap the trebles on their lures for a single 1/0 - 4/0, depending on the size of the lure.

I've heard the upstream edge of the Point Walter sand spit is holding good lizards.
