there are plenty of nice plump sand whiting just behind point peron in 15 to 20 metres if you want to stay in the sound try the southern flats for herring whiting king george squid leatherjacket skippy, there are tailor under the causeway at night plus most of the reefs around point peron and penguin island!

Southern Flats

Agree, for a family outing hard to beat the southern flats, usually very calm and pretty shallow water. Can pick up KG's, sand whiting, herring, gardies etc.

Also try some of the bays around Garden Island for herring, and plenty of squid around the weed banks.

Enjoy.

have thought about the bays

have thought about the bays of GI but didnt know how close ya can get before ya upset the navy, not really targetting anything specific , anything worthwhile for a feed , had a good session near point peron with KG in about 3-4m of water but then no luck since, have tried a few spots in the sound near causway and near the flats , nothing but trumps and blowies , even tried down near grain loader got a few rays at night.

will try getting directly above the flats and see how it pans out .

How safe is carnac and is it better to launch from point walter or down near the esplanade?

Sorry for all the questions but i will learn I promise

when fishing the flats fish the sandier areas and dont use burley, use some chook pellets and throw them in the sand! this helps to keep the trumps away! as for carnac its not bad on a good day but if the sea breeze blows up it can get rather rough! dont walk on the island either theres plenty of big tiger snakes!

thanks for the tips snappermiles , the trumps are fun for the kids for a bit as there catching but they annoy me to buggery , id rather go home and atleast have something to feed on , even the crabs arent interested in the trumps

you cant go past the sand whiting head west from point peron untill you hit 15 to 20 metres then drift until you hit a good school mark that spot and anchor if you like sharks there are alot of school sharks and black tips that frequent that same area at this time of year! i just use a floating whiting for them!
