Guess who is BACK and writing articles again!!!!!

Well it is about bl*&^y time! It appears that Ryan is finally doing something that he is very good at.That's right he is back and writing articles for WESTERN AUSTRALIAN FISHING MAGAZINE! Have just read his latest offering and found it to be a great read as well as giving us something to think about as an alternative avenue for a fishing fix while the Fisheries ban on Cat 1 fish is in place.

MMMMM now let me see fishing deep water for fish that are only meant to inhabit the north!!!!

Yep count me in (RUBY SNAPPER off the coast of Perth yes please!).

Speaking from personal experience if you get the chance to do this take it up as you will have a ripper of a day! Great fun and Ruby Snapper for tea (DELICIOUS!). If you are looking for alternatives to fishing while the ban is on why not give it a go! Go in to Ryan's shop and have a chat with him it is well worth it.

Oh and Ryan it is great to see you back and writing again mate! Been much too long since you have set pen to paper, but when you do it has turned out good!

Cheers OX

Double Ruby

Wed, 2008-07-02 23:56

Sounds like we both had the same idea Ryan, my Ruby article is in this month's FWA, but I had to go to the Monte's to catch mine. I thought they were supposed to be a northern species too.
Very nice on the tooth.
Deeeep water. Did you head out with Ryan, Ox?

Cheers

"Ruby Rewards" WAFM Feature

Thu, 2008-07-03 14:03

Thanks Brent & fella's, it's good to be back into the writers chair again!

After so many years of contract writing i lost the buzz and gave it up for a while. I'm now back into it and the opportunity to write for FWA and Wangler in the past was good but things change.

I'm very comfortable writing articles that excites me and contains quality stuff so i'm giving it my all for WAFM (The Western Australian Fishing Magazine)

The magazine has a great coverage of articles and the content is fresh with awesome pictures. At $5.95 probably too cheap but very affortable for all to read.

More stuff in the pipeline and yeh Andy Ox came out with me and he's pictured in my Ruby artticle holding a stonker fish also.

Plenty of good fish out in the deep water and spots are plentiful if you put in the hard yards. With the government putting in place these new bans which reduces our options we need to diversify. I truly believe that this will be the "next new phase in fishing" as we strive to step outside the square and explore new boundaries!"

Cheers

Great article

Wed, 2008-07-09 12:07

Just read it.
They are some pretty impressive metro fish that's for sure.
Well done.
Here is a pic of one from the Monte's but nowhere near as big as the ones you caught locally, just goes to show if you put the time on the water the rewards are plentiful.

Well done again Ryan & co.

Cheers

Great fish Ryan, Fished out

Tue, 2008-07-15 16:37

Great fish Ryan, Fished out deep for the last few years out from Rocko in around the 250m and caught, grey banded, snapper, shark etc etc but have never came across Ruby's. Didn't think they would come down this far, do find them more in summer with the warm currents??

  With all the new limits

Thu, 2008-07-10 20:31

With all the new limits and such coming into place its great for such a story to come out , perth and surrounding area's has always had a secret shroud on such fish and the likes of Grey banded cod and also Eight bar and Harpuka . Three months ago when I first caught Ruby was a great experience and one Ill never forget and especially since it was a metro one as well  .

Time on the water along with a good electrical package on your boat means your half way there , and  when you do find them you have to get them to bite . Using 37kg rods and two speed reels capable of holding enough braid to knit a gersey , extra wide gimble's ,equalizer harnesses or harness jackets  only tame the pain when you hook up down deep and get a double header  just dont be lazy and leave your rod in the holder and winch the fish, your burning in your arms will turn into smile's on everyones face when the line angle becomes more vertical and you wonder what it is on the end of your line and await color .

Quality terminal tackle is a must with the likes of gladiator circles and shogun swivels  , I use an Oz Flex rod made in Wa  and a shimano Tld50 two speed reel with around 1000 metres of whiplash braid  and just over the same of 30ld mono backing , I have fished side by side with another bloke and shared a harness so some expenses can be shared .

Go see ryan and honsu for all the finer details and go out and get one for yourself

Sorry for the no reply!

Thu, 2008-07-10 20:37

Yeh Andy I was fortunate enough to get out with Ryan and have a crack at the deep water stuff. Bit concerning when you run out of braid and are fishing with the mono backing.

As you stated mate when you put in the hard yards  and time you definatly will get the rewards! As it was I was able to come back with some great fish and the benefit of being able to pick Ryan's brain while doing this type of fising is truley invaluable!

Once again Ryan thanks mate for the opportunity to have a go at the Rubys, very much appreciated !  Oh and sorry to all who have responded but I have been flat out recently (a 21month old boy and a 8 week old boy come in first before fishwrecked, or so I have been told! As well as my business has taken off and I have been doing a telephone, data cabling course ((ACMA Open cabling course) with endorsments in telecommunications, data cabling, optic fibre and coaxial connections. Very little time at the moment for anything but work and kids...could be worse I suppose)).

Anyone really keen on giving the beasties a crack go and see Ryan at OCEANSIDE TACKLE & MARINE and he will give you the skinny on them.

PS I knew we made the right decision in naming the second bub after "RYAN".....hehehehehehehehehehe    LOL!!!

God I am so funny I crack myself up sometimes....Yes that is right I am a complete idiot.....he he he he!

Cheers OX
