Gotta laugh at all the salmon fishos

All over my FB feed is metro fishos raving about what lure they used to catch salmon etc
I guess it must of been a good year as they schools finally travelled north a bit?
But seriously you could cast anything into a school of salmon and hook up...metals, poppers, hard bodies, plastics etc...its not rocket science and is there any need to spend many $$ buying fancy lures?
(But I may be a bit biased as we tend to catch the pesky buggers all year round)

I used to make my own
I used to make my own poppers out of broom stick, the challenge there was to see if they actually worked, and they did.

yep thats the way to go
Dale, used to catch a lot more then salmon on them, years ago I took a newbie to mackel island, gave him a popper and said cast this out,so he did but didn't wind it back, just as I suggested to crank it back it got smashed by a 20kilo mack, who was taken by lenie the cod.

True BUT a school last week
True BUT a school last week was being bombarded with every popper and slice ever made. Time and time again the school would drift in and get peppered without a hook up. Then a well placed stickbait and 4 or 5 fish climbed all over it. Something different? Or something more lifelike??

I bet
the tackle store in Esperance would sell out of Laser Pros if there was a run of Macks there though?

Up run fish
When the salmon are on their run north to spawn they are hungry and will hit nearly anything that is in front of them [counted 14 mulies in one when cutting them up for craybait] but once they turn around and head south its a different matter because unless you drop it directly under its nose it won't even touch it, that's where baitcast mulies or those that use blobs to let the bait stay out there catch the most fish.
