Anyone read the latest BCF sale flyer regarding reel/rod combos

Hi All,

Was reading through the latest BCG flyer that was delivered to my mailbox. I was looking at what reel/rod combo's they were offering for sale. I would like to know from the ones thy offer which would be the best for use on the rocks/beach for the bigger fish either metro or up north.

Cheers

Kim

Kim,What type and size fish

Sat, 2014-05-03 15:22

Kim,
What type and size fish are you chasing?

Have a look at a Lemax President Royale rod with a shimano stradic 6000 or sustain. (Mid price combo)

http://fishwrecked.com/forum/10-lemax-president-royal-rods-check-them-out-time-years-land-based-fishing

Not at BCF but I think Oceanside Tackle and Marine would be able to help you out.

If on a TIGHT budget, just buy a large Penn slammer combo or
11' Penn spinfisher big game surf combo.

There are way too many combo's to list that could do the job.

Thank you for the info!

Sat, 2014-05-03 16:46

Hi Doooma,

Thank you that info mate. Greatly appreciated! I should have been clearer on the type of fish and location etc. I am wanting something that I can use between Steep point to Esperance of the rocks or beach. The species of interest are salmon, snapper, mackerel, trevally etc. I will honestly say I am a novice to type of fishing, so getting it right first time is important for me. If you combine for instance the Lemax President Royal and the Shimano Stradic 6000 what would the total cost be allowing for any discounts?? Also is it better to go much longer in the rod or stay around the 9-10' length?

Cheers

Kim

The Lemax range is no longer

Mon, 2014-05-05 15:54

The Lemax range is no longer sold in Australia and the President Royals have been discontinued, which is a shame because they were an insanely popular rod over here.  I suspect TCE Tackles will be ditching the whole Lemax line shortly, if they haven't already.

Cant comment on the okuma, but the crystal power tip isn't a 'bad' rod

Okuma Avenger 80 Fishing

Okuma Avenger 80 Fishing Reel?

We stopped stocking Okuma due to issues with some of the reels and there are better alternatives.

12 Foot Crystal Power Tip Fishing Rod

As for the rod, go for something that is full graphite (not the Silstar). This will enable you to cast out further and have more grunt to turn fish from the rocks especially where your going.

I should have been clearer on the type of fish and location etc. I am wanting something that I can use between Steep point to Esperance of the rocks or beach. The species of interest are salmon, snapper, mackerel, trevally etc.  Also is it better to go much longer in the rod or stay around the 9-10' length?

You need the longer rod indeed so 11-12ft ideal. This will enable you to cast out further and have more grunt to turn fish from the rocks especially where your going

A Penn Spinfisher 850SSM matched with a Fishing WA Extreme 11'6 Beach/Rock rod is IDEAL

Decisions Decisions!

Wed, 2014-05-07 22:55

Hi Everyone!

I took myself down to Oceanside the other day and spoke to Dave. He suggested that I go for a Pflueger Crank 080SW reel with a Pflueger Crank 12' 15-24kg rod or as a alternative rod Ugly Stik Gold 12' 15-24kg

Dave was really helpful I thought. If there are other alternatives I would love to know about them. The setup that Dave suggested seems to be a good all-rounder that will cater to most species from either the rocks/cliffs or beach. After seeing the Shimano range I was left with mouth watering. Please share your thoughts thanks guys.

Cheers

Kim

I have the 60 Pflueger Salt

Wed, 2014-05-07 23:16

I have the 60 Pflueger Salt which is the model below the Crank and it's a great reel. I've pulled in everything from tailor, salmon, mulloway and big rays off the beach to dhu and snapper on the boat and it just keeps on going. I think the 80 Crank should be a great reel for beach stuff.

graphite is great

Mon, 2014-05-05 16:25

Off the beach, but for rocks I would use glass as rocks and graphite don't mix. Great for rock fishing until you drop them or knock them on rocks. $$$

Imo get a combo for surf i.e. the nice graphite one, and a cheaper glass rod for the rocks. Cost more up front but save dollars when you do stack it on the stones.

Reel can be swapped between both.

Those FWA rods are good. Got the 9ft for father in law.

you can jam the glass rods

Tue, 2014-05-06 00:16

you can jam the glass rods go graphit you wont regret it just dont smash it on the rocks and your al good

glass is just too heavy for spinning off the rocks the FWA rods are great, i use a heavy glass rod for snapper/baldies at steep point because you can winch them straight up no gaff needed thats the only place i would use a glass rod again

I am impressed with all the options you guys have given me!

Tue, 2014-05-06 01:49

Thank you everyone for all your wealth of info on selecting a good combo for myself! I like some of the Shimanos for sure but the prices are more high end for pros like yourselves. If I had an open check book no problem at all. But alas I have to start somewhere mid range to get me started. I will add more comments soon. But thanks guys for everything! Now comes the homework.

Cheers

Defining

 Mid-range could be helpful

Get yourself down to a proper tackle store like Oceanside, Complete Angler etc. and have a look at the options available.

I'm sure they're staff will point you in the right direction.

I really like the Graphite rods but....

I really like the Graphite rods but I fear they could get hairline fractures fishing of the rocks and there goes the money :-(
