Furuno 585 Set up

Hi

Just picked up my new unit today, can any one recomend any setting to optimise its use? I got the 600watt transom mount transducer.

Is there any value hooking it up to my gps?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I intend on reading the book inside out and back to front, even though experience is far better.

Thanks

Justin

Cheers

Just took the 585 out, out of 2 rocks, what a difference it makes.

Was tending to over react, as not used to seeing EVERYTHING in such fine detail.

When i did spot a solid chunk of red, dropped a line from the 1800 Saragosa ugly stick blue water 37kg outfit and up came an awesome 6 kg Dhu, A nice bend in the new rod and a good lesson on what Dhu look like on the 585.

Picked the 585 up for $2300, Worth every penny, I think if paying it off per Kilo of fish flesh it might take some time to break even, but what the heck.

Used these settings which found on an Ausfish forum post, seemed just fine, any one out there recomend any thing different?

""I dont use any whiteline or white marker on my unit. But I run mine totally in manual.

I run 64 colours and use a white background. Anything that comes up in red is a solid fish

I run manual range with a screen of 15m in deep water( 30m+) using the 200khz ducerI also run 10% colour erase, high TVG, low interference, 10-15% clutter and manual gain settings

Also I have the gain offset set at +20.

I get a clear picture from .5m to 110m ""

TVG

I normally run LOW TVG up to 100m. Dont normally go to HIGH till out deeper.

Used to use the white background but went to Blue as its easier on the eyes.

echo's!

Dont ignore the dense blue vertical echo's, not all big fish show up as red solid echo's. Some of the cray guys use white background, i tried it and too blingy for my eyes so i'm using a black Hue now....works well for me. A good unit Justin, certainly makes all the difference....go get em!

My raymarine looses picture

My raymarine looses picture all the time, I think I'll have to go one more hull strake out with the transducer. I dsaw such a big red blob in shallow water I looked under the boat but couldn't see anything, no idea what it was!
