funny question but why is it so

trying to understand why the best free divers and scuba divers I have dived with are all smokers is it because there bodys are used to oxygen starvation or what ????

Funny that, when I was in South America there were some people hiking with us at altitude(+4000m) that were smokers and they too didn't seem to be as affected by the lack of oxygen up there.

sports stars and athletes

sports stars and athletes have (or tend to have) an AEROBIC metabolism. constant exercise and training means they have adapted their bodys to rely on high levels of oxygen to support their muscles. this is why if you go for a run you start huffin n puffen etc.,

divers, through practise and training develope an ANAEROBIC constitution. the ability to function with low levels of oxygen, ie, able to last longer on a single breath. after even a few weeks of breathing exercises its easy to hold your breath a lot longer and dive deeper. if your keen on it theres a few apps you can get on your phone that will help (apnea trainer, static trainer etc)

alternatively, smashin cones on the reg diminishes the bodys ability to transport oxygen in the red blood cells, therefore building up your tolerance. this is quite handy, cos it means you can get hell blazed then go pull a couple o crays!!

and if you see anyone using tanks to get em you can blow smoke in their face and tell em to grow a pair!!

I think that was a well explained explanation but don't think I will be "smashing the cones" before a dive as I am stupid enough with out doing that stuff HAHA

yeh i always tend to swallow a bunch of smoke accidentaly and then burp it out about half an hour later, that messes with your diving a little bit!!
