Fishing WA

Think I am going to have to give up watching Fishing WA live.

The last few episodes I have noticed the high incidence of general ads and ads for the sale of extreme gear on the show itself. Today was no different. I think that it was pretty evenly split by my reckoning, about 50/50 fishing and ads on a show that runs for 29 minutes.

Understand everyone has to make a living but I dont think I will be putting myself out to watch another episode as it runs on TV. Record it, watch the little amount of fishing which is interesting enough and flick the rest.

Not alone

Sun, 2013-03-03 17:13

You are not alone there, the show is 17 minutes of adverts and 5 minutes of interest with station ads inbetween to make it up to the half hour as listed.

Sadly its not the only show like it.

youtube ads

Hey mate download Google Chrome browser then go to extensions and search for 'Adblock Plus' which is free. Install it and you'll never have ads on youtube or most websites again. Completely gets rid of all the ads before youtube vids and even the little popup ones mid video.

If anyone can't get it to work just PM me and ill walk ya through getting it done!!

correct info!!!

Sun, 2013-03-03 23:15

brayds is correct.....Extreme Tackle, Yozuri, McArthy, Recruitwest, Bradley smokers, Richter lures etc are show sponsors and their gear recomended when used. Its a no brainer (rolled eyes) that most all viewers want us to tell them what were using and we still we get asked " please show us more gear talk".........tuff to keep all happy

The break down;

30 minute show

9 minutes of channel ads (out of our control)

1 minute Extreme gear available plug

* 20 minutes of fishing/technique/info/gear used etc

* Each to their own on what you want to watch, Fishing WA Channel 7 ratings are very good and they have re-signed us for another series......happy days

Im the same as everyone else.

Sun, 2013-03-03 23:06

Im the same as everyone else. Im really not interested in the ads, they are boring ! .. businesses need to listen...  Many veiwers are saying they are basically not interested in veiwing it. Its a fact.

You can give parralells to the boating industry.  Boating businesses were saying a few years ago that they cannot reduce their prices anymore . Now importing a boat from the US of A is not only an option .. it is pretty quickly becoming common.  Im looking around at kayaks to buy and seeing Finns kayaks here in WA seem to be competing nicely with the imports and seems to be doing well. They are offering free trials on their Yaks to ensure people get good value for their buck and get the right yak to suit their needs. ( just my preception by the way ) . They know they are competing with the world and are trying everything to remain competitive. I hope they do.

Many of us here already are using youtube and others for our entertaining rather than TV , better options Im sure will soon become available. Or other options I dont even know about. Consumers demands are keeping with the times.  I dont even know when or where fishing WA broadcasts, but I enjoy watching it when the TV is on.  (apart from the ads ..  lol ) .

Im not knocking anyone here, just stating a fact , our needs for entertainment  and information are changing quickly and businesses need to keep pace.  What that will mean for a show like Fishing WA or any others Im not sure. Other channels seem to have more fishing than the normal commercial chanells with out heaps of ads ie 7.9.10 etc and I tend to watch them these days. Its tiring watching it anything on the commercial channels IMO.

Maybe locally produced shows need to look further afield for their $$$ also. Maybe producing a show for a local market is old hat ...So, Is the fishing good enough in WA to go global ?? probably !! Maybe thats the future for locally produced TV.

Why not an hour long show?

Most all TV stations will "generally" allow a 30 min show " only " which translates to 21 minute's of fishing footage!!!!

Each to their own I guess.

Mon, 2013-03-04 09:50

Each to their own I guess. Its up to the individual and they can vote with their feet (or eyes in this case) as I have chosen to do. As regards timekeeping my old kitchen clock gave me these times:

Actual fishing                  14 mins

Fishing ads                         3 mins

Station ads                        11 mins

That accounts for 28 mins of a 29 minute show - like I said 50/50

I have no axe to grind, this was just an observation about a show on my favourite pastime that seems to inundated with adverts rather than about the pastime itself and as someone else commented there are plenty of other shows in exactly the same boat, if you will pardon the pun.

I have always believed in providing feedback, be it positive or negative as without feedback how is one to know how the other parties ie the viewers in this case are feeling.

cheers

Mon, 2013-03-04 20:31

I love fishing wa as well as ifish. Very informative, and info is why I watch fishing shows!  Seeing the lures and rigs is my favourite thing to see.

Keep up the good work Ryan!  I just wish there were more episodes on tv.  I even have you series linked on my foxtel.

However, a good local episode would be good.  Trolling the 3 mile for marks and tuna, and bottom bashing the 3 mile too.  Seeing different techniques would be great.  Most people know bait, and struggle with that to be honest.

If you took out a local viewer for a hints and tips day on your show that would be great too ;)  that's one thing I like about mark berg.

Cheers!

it's no different to sitting down to whatch a good movie on CH7/9/10. It starts at 8pm and you'd be lucky to see then end before midnight! Ad breaks are getting longer. No wonder TV is losing an entire generation to Youtube. My 16yr old watches nothing on main stream TV, all his interests are instantly available online for immediate viewing.

I tried recording the show

Wed, 2013-03-06 23:47

I tried recording the show and saved them to watch all at once as i work on most weekends .I think i scored the first couple of episodes then there was a stuff up along the line  followed by some more shows and half of a double episode that i was not aware of. I then copped about 2 weeks of shitty tennis and then i caught a heap of segments on Bradley smokers (ie the end of the show)because the dumb arses at 7 decided to change the screening time.

Fishing WA is a good show its just the station that lets you guys down with its inconsistant Bullshit.

Now wheres my turd on a stick?????

Thu, 2013-03-07 00:15

Yeah, I watch lots of fishing shows. They all have their good points and bad . I just hate how all these threads turn into ( I hate that guy Blah blah, he sucks. Blah blah. )

Any fishing show on main stream TV is a good thing. But i have to agree. 7 puts other sports first, and consistantly goes into over time at the loss of my favorite fishing show.

Great work Ryan, keep it up Bro ,

Cheers Grant .

 my opinion on this thread....

all you haters or negative comments regarding tackle advertisement etc etc need to realise a few things.

1) how do you expect FWA to fund the entire series without sponsors......

2) a sponsors contract generally requires you to promote their product

3) compared to other fishing shows FWA is 10/10 , purely WA fishing with the odd international segment.

4) Ryan and crew are very informative in techniques, and what there using, and to be honest i like that, i am a bit of a tackle junkie and like to try new things and learn....and FWA does that. If you just want to see them pull up big fish with out learing how, what ,where and why i find it pretty pointless and to me it would eventuelly get boring.

5) if you think its that bad all the promoting, get off your ass and try it yourself and see where it gets you with the lack of funds etc etc etc....

thats my take on it all and im not diggining personally at anyone just sometimes look outside the box.

TV Times!

Sun, 2013-03-24 20:21

Thanks for the possitive feedback (99%) on this series both via email/PM/In my shop and over the phone!

Sorry for the delay in replying........ I've been away the last month or so overseas for business and some R & R fishing in WA. Recently taking advantage of a nice break before we start filming/travelling again for the new FWA Series 14.

As for Fishing Western Australia there seems to be a bit of confusion to what minutes the TV station runs so I got an email from Harry the " Producer " who has to edit the shows to strict Channel 7 guide lines (same general info I gave above but here it is);

Fishing Western Australia 30 min show/Break down;

21-22 min show (Channel 7 controls)

1 min Extreme Plug (FWA puts into the 21 min show)

8 min TV adds (Channel 7 controls)

.........pretty simple

As for Extreme Tackle & Fishing WA, its simple.....they are the main Sponsor of the show and no different to Daiwa or Shimano their gear gets recommended. The Extreme range of gear is good, well priced and available at all good takle stores. The Extreme range will expand and like ALL FISHING TV SHOWS they are backed & sponsored (if not they dont exist) .........pretty simple

ps, all great feedback but have a read of terboz123 ..... I couldnt of said it better

Adventure Bound

Wed, 2013-03-27 18:07

Adventure Bound is another great fishing show, it goes for half an hour and only has one advertising break in the middle of the show. Very informative and has even had Ryan in it a few times

It's on Monday and Wednesday nights (Wednesday is a repeat of Monday just in case you miss it) and is on channel 44 (West TV - WTV44) around 8pm - 8:30pm (it changes)

Yes there is a small amount of referral to sponsors and their products but it is very subtle and usually beneficial to me the viewer.

Wed, 2013-03-27 18:31

i dont know what the complaint is fishing WA is clearly much better than 95% of the fishing shows on tv, my kids enjoy it so there must be enough fishing content to keep there attention.

i particularly enjoy the lanbased fishing as i am predominatly a shore fisher myself, ryan i reakon it would be very cool of you to do a trip to DHI or quobba somthing different that you would never see on another show

cheers

p.s

not steep point enough people know about itas it is and i have only just done my first trip there :)
