Fishing sun glasses
Submitted by C.P on Sun, 2019-02-10 09:53
This question has probably been asked more than once before so appologies for that.
Any recommendations for fishing sunglasses please? - Boat and beach.
Is it worth spending top dollar or is a pair of cancer council sunnies from a pharmacy just as good?

I reckon any of the better
I reckon any of the better brands, Rayban, Mako, Spotters, Maui Jims etc are the way to go, as long as they're GLASS polarised. I've found the plastic lenses, even on the good brands, tent to scratch a lot easier. Pity they're so friggin dear!

mako prescription
i wear mako prescription every day and they are fantastic but expensive and yes they do scratch if you don’t look after them. I replace every 2 years and keep the old ones as a knock around pair. They are great on the water.

Blue lenses and they stand up to a bit of rough treatment

Costas for me.
Costas for me. Used to use cheaper pairs but the crappy frames and cheap lenses would always give me head aches or even neck pain. Costas were the only frames that felt solid and protected all my vision can wear them all day multiple days no dramas. Pricey tho.

Since I can’t see jack without glasses, I only get what ever polarised ones they can do for me, haven’t been left disappointed yet.

Check out Fuglies out of
Check out Fuglies out of Ballarat I believe. I visit a lot of yards so get the safety polarised models for around $60 (or $80 locally). The polycarbonate lenses are the same lense material as the poly Maui Jims, only $200 cheaper.

Maui Jim glass lenses...
My last set only broke because my 6 year old pulled them off my face onto the ground. They were 10 years young!
I tried Serengetti glasses. No good.
Have reverted to the Italian Maui Jim's.
Awesome in the Brown lens.

I've got 2x second hand
I've got 2x second hand Spotters in ice blue and hallide lens and they make a huge difference with the hallide lens being great for the river and estuary. I snapped the frame on one and the nose rubber perished on the second set and I contacted Spotters to get a quote and was told to just post them in and they were repaired for free and posted back to me within 3 days. Safe to say I'm a Spotters customer for life now.

Tried a lot of brands and
Tried a lot of brands and settled on Costas. Particularly with the blue glass lenses (not the plastic option)
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

I have Maui Jims and Spotters
My Spotters are brilliant and the difference they make on the water is noticeable. My Maui's are everyday glasses and they do a great job on the water too.
Definitely worth spending the money on whatever brand you choose.
