well you cant expect to
well you cant expect to catch fish all the time, it happens, we go out on boat and can put over 100 litres of fuel in and come back alot, hey thats just fishing, the way i see it, if your gone there 3 times for not alot, maybe your doing something wrong, or other than that try somewhere else , might get more luck that way, other than that maybe calm down and take your caps off , that might help too

3 or 4 times
you've been lucky! I didn't realise fishing was that good around here, but if your after big ones travel out to 90-150 mtrs you might be in luck otherwise go to sealanes you'll have better luck.....and it's cheaper!

Cost beneficial
Unfortunately we are in W.A, as everyone knows, WAIT AWHILE. It would be nice to just go and throw aquaculture ponds in everywhere and restock our natural ecosystem, but unfortunately its just not that easy! Now I could go into a huge spiel about it, but its just not worth it, we just have to face the fact that we are going to have to hang in there and continue on with what is left of our current stocks.
What you've said is a perfect reason for why limits need to be cut and oh my god, maybe even closed seasons. The fish aren't there like they used to be, doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. Ever increasing fishing pressure, ever decreasing fish population = somethings gotta give and the fact that sometimes you just can't go out and catch a feed reinforces that IMO. (sure, sometimes the fish don't bite, but as a general thing, there aint what there used to be, ask the old timers, they'll tell you!!!!)
Then again, I was always taught to just enjoy my time on the water, catching fish is a bonus. :)

For enjoyment
Hi Diff
I am a mainly land based fisher who gets an opportunity to get out in the deep stuff every now and then. I personally fish as a hobby and get enjoyment out of it.If i catch fish, woohoo thats a bonus. Fish stocks may not be the same, but then again there are plenty of others who get out, mix it up and sometimes get great results.Dont stop trying and go out with the intention of having a great time. Good Luck

My thoughts exactly
You blokes are echoing my thoughts. Fishing, the act of getting away and out on the water or sitting on the rocks, beach, by a stream, whatever your fishing type, is what it is about. Getting fish is just a bonus.
I also agree that bag limits have to be reviewed. Who needs to bring home 20 fish of one type. THey get put in the freezer and eventually thrown out. I think they limits need to be lowered and people be more responsible. More stringent policing of the limits and sizes is also a must to ensure compliance by all.

i agree with some of the
i agree with some of the laws of fishing, i have no problem with the limits on fish as ive never brought home my limit
but dosnt any one think they should be doing more to the fish stocks i mean i love just getting out there getting that fresh air in me(till i light a smoke ) its even better when your mates are with you , but its sad to see them drooping off as quickly as they are.

thread direction
i think its funny the direction that some of the threads go on sometimes. i sympathise with diff as after spending alot of money on gear and putting in time and effort i guess its hard to be all chirpy when you've come back with stuff all. but i agree that sometimes you've just gotta suck it up and persevere...or invent a time machine.

thanks peteman for agreeing with me but it would be nice to see something like a pond for breeding aswell keeping the laws in place so that there is fish for the future and not just for today
can any one put me in the direction for a duhie or maybe a snapper

Keep Trying Diff.
The fish are there it just takes time and effort to find the right ground, and fish it properly. The sound and garden island have all sorts of fishing available. Depends on what you are chasing, and how are you going about. You can buy a 100 thousand dollar boat,5 thousand dollar sounder gps and head offshore. But trust me if you don't know what you are looking for, or what you are doing you are going to come home empty handed. Garden island and the sound holds all sorts of fish from your bread and butter spieces to snapper and even baldchin grouper. Time on the water and time learning about what you are chasing is the only way to get better. Good luck....

Hi diff what sort of fish
Hi diff what sort of fish are you targeting ,how far out are you going, fishing is a slow learning prosess, iv'e been fishing 35 years and i am still leaning new things, looking for new ground every trip, all the years of fishing and i still come home empty ,there is a lot of good info on the forums, and some good guys so just ask a few questions and read the post you will find some very good stuff from bait to rigs and where the fish are biting and in no time things will fall into place.
cheers paul

E for effort
Diff,
You've got to put the hard yards in if you want to ern yourself the pleasure of catching the prize fish, yes stocks are depleting new rules soon to be in effect are said to combat this however for the mean time optimise your rig, your set up, get the freshest bait, battel the ever rising fuel prices, look for the best ground.
There's plenty of tricks and info around get a game plan together tryting a few different spots in a day. Go the extra mile. Plenty of people go out and come back with naf all.
Just ask around if you need advice and don't give up. NEVER!

All the years i have fished
All the years i have fished and i could not tell you much about pinkies ,or were to catch them ,i have try from two rocks many times with no luck .Having a good sounder that will pick up the coral is a must .This is the most important part of my fishing, learning to read you sounder ,and puting the hours in cruising ,looking for the ground, find the ground and you'll find fish.

Maybe Join a Fishing Club
Diff
I know how you feel it has taken us 18mths two boats and 3 sounders later to sometimes catch some fish of decent size and eatting quality,
The Best thing i ever did was join Rockingham off shore fishing club the guy have been so helpfull with my riggs, bait to use and even giving up a lot of their spots (not the best ones of cause) but it was a starting point for myself and family and we hold a monthly comp and BBq Day which are great for picking brains.
Now we have found heaps of new ground mainly in the 60 to 90 mtrs range sometime prductive sometimes not that is fishing always a great day out with the family
But the main thing i have learnt is never stop asking questions or trying new ground and never give up trying .

at the end of the day this
at the end of the day this is a forum and the tips and tricks that are posted are priceless i guess its how you interpret the info supplied. there's a whole lot of ground between fish out there shore based and in the boat...when you read the info the spots are almost signposted, i mean no-one is going to give up the gps co-ordinates of their fav dhuie spot are they? people have worked hard over these patches to find these spots and just because you're falling on tough times doesn't mean these spots will appear.

When it comes to fishing
When it comes to fishing it's not about recovery of expenditure. It's about the fishing. Yes it is expensive and doesn't always produce the goodies, but it's not about filling the freezer, it's about getting out there, sometimes with friends, sometimes alone and like someone said earlier, catching fish is a bonus.

I don't have a boat, but I have been where you are at, and will probably be there again. My only suggestion is to think about where you have fished, how you have fished, what time you have fished, what bait you have fished, etc. See if there are things in there that that have worked and ones that haven't. Many times it is a case of perserverence.
Try some different things, ie, rigs, baits, spots. Find what works and build on it.
Russ' suggestion is a good one. Meeting other anglers in a club is a good way to pick up some tips.
I would also think about trying to get a deckie position for a day with someone from this site. They may be able to show you something that may make the big difference.
Personally, I have really found that burleying makes a big difference for my results, along with looking for particukar spots where I think there will be fish and moving on to another spot if that doesn't work and sticking to the spots where I have had some success.
It is frustrating, but stick at it. Sometimes it just all comes together and you will have a great day and it will help wipe out all the crap days.
Good luck, Colin
