Fishing in heavy surf

Fishing in heavy surf with strong current haven't had much luck over the last week with the old running bean sinker down to a set of gangs, when it's calm this works really good for me. Havent even been catching small fish whiting and herring on the same similar rig but with out gangs just a small long shank hook .Does anyone use different rigs to these in heavy conditions ???
Cheers Fishon !!

Heavy surf, heavy gear
That's where you need the stiff rods with casting power. I use the grappel sinkers and a champaigne cork above the gang. Works wonders. IMO when the surf is heavy and the gutter is pronounced then you don't need to go out too far. The feeding happens in close. Heavy surf and deep gutters = fish!

Cheers Mate will have to give
Cheers Mate will have to give them sinkers a crack definetly in a deep gutter maybe Would you have the sinker on the bottom of the rig and the hooks coming off a 3 way swivel or dropper loop ?

Yep. Definately
I use a fairly short run to the sinker but a fairly long run for the bait and the cork. It moves around heaps. Three way swivel is all that's needed. Just drop the sinker off the bottom bit and hang the bait off the side.

As per the info above but Im
As per the info above but Im not a fan of three way swivels myself, I prefer to tie knots or use brass rings, and despite using grappel sinkers for many years I prefer to use a three sided pyramid sinker these days. Go a bit heavier than you normally would in better weather. Also use a stream lined bait that you cut so it doesnt spin in the water. Forget the ball style sinkers in heavy surf, unless you are happy to follow your rig along the beach with the currents. Try the suggestions here and see what suits you, there is no right/wrong. good luck .
