Fishing Denham in close
Submitted by Aidan_G on Sat, 2009-12-19 14:44
I'm heading up to denham for two weeks and was wondering if anyone can give me any tips to catching some larger fish in close.
I only have access to a 10 hp tinny so most of the locations that everyone talks about are too far to reach so i'm just looking for some general pointers or some secret spots if your feeling generous :)
Any help will be appreciated and merry christmas to all

i have heard you can get
i have heard you can get some nice blacks and the odd pinky south of of the townsite. or if you head just north around the point from town you can get some good size whiting in the shallows.the bent peg is good but its 10nm across , might be a bit far for the tinny

denham
i went to denham jetty 4 years ago, while staying in monkey mia,and i caughts heaps of pinkies, silver bream and sharks most nights on a south to westerly sea breeze, that was xmas to new years weeks, anyway i guess you should be able to fish out in the bay anywhere in your dingy, best bait i found for the pinks and silver bream was river prawns sold at local iga,for sharks fresh fillets of any fish,OR LIVIE, you catch on heavy mono 100 +,i also hooked the local groper that hangs around the jetty one night.he rapped me around the jetty pylon and he is just over 2 mtrs long, anyway enjoy the denham shark bay experience, merry christmas to you aswell ,dont forget your squid jigs, because the squid hang around the jetty most nights.

squid
diddent catch many fish but the squid were great of the town jetty.there is two inlets to the north, big and litte lagoon.some nice whiting in them. The eziest way is to wait for the fishing boats to come in chuck them 20 bucks and they chuck you a couple of nice fish.

thnx 4 the help
didnt get a chance to read any of this before I left but thanks anyway. I found that there were some decent black snapper to be caught less than 1 nm from the town and its certainly fun to watch people go flying passed on their way out deep and return with less fish. As for fishing off the jetty there were plenty of smaller fish and using whole fillets of freshly caught snook for bait I found there were some larger queen snapper and the odd estuary cod around and at least one golden trevally.
In the little lagoon no one seemed to be catching anything so I fished lures in the river feeding the lagoon and never failed to catch a couple decent flatties.
i will probably give a more detailed write up later and hopefully help out some other people who want to fish in close at denham
