Fish gods smiling
Heading out this morning at a gentlemans hour of 7:45 the water was a bit messy but proceeded as the forecast was for the winds to drop right down and they did...We had a friend Katherine with us hoping to get her onto some fish. Luckily the gods were with us and she managed to get her first kg. To say she was happy was an understatement....We managed to get a nice mixed bag out there with several of the damn scorpion fish nailing the baits. lots of small (just under size ) flattys out there which were a pain along with loads of wrasse but when you can get a feed like this you dont mind sacrificing a few baits. Along with a couple of surprize catches. Sandy managed to get a decent size occy and i got a pb squid... As far as the western king wrasse go not being nasty to my mum she loves them so we keep a few of the big ones for her as well as a feed of dhuie and kg for dad .All up it was a great day with the seas smoothing right off for a quick trip back in at 1:30.

Bloody good onya Russ!!
good to see someone who has worked hard, saved his coin, invested in the boat and gear to then get the rewards. Not sure about keeping the wrasse with such other quality fish in the mix, but hey, each to their own. Well done mate, good stuff

KG
There is more KG on that table than i have caught in all my life..lol
Great spread as well. I have always looked at WKW fillets and thought they might be edible but i prefer to upgrade them to Dhu.

the king wrasse have a soft
the king wrasse have a soft white flesh that dont taste too bad . the kgs arent that easy to find out deep but when you find the area its good.
i tend to use the smaller wrasse for dhuie candy or the s/bakers

bit hard to do like that
bit hard to do like that Dale when your using hooks small enough for the kgs. altho a fillet fits nicely. i did send a small one down with a hook through its back as a livey, i got bricked within minuits.

I have a hook that’s about a 10/0 and I have a small mustad limerick about a 1/0 that’s wired to the bend of the big hook, I bait the small hook, hook up one of the pickers, instant live bait and if/when it gets taken, the big hook hooks them up.

Not really, I have them snugged up, not tightly, they can still swing around a bit.

finding that spot was more
finding that spot was more ass than class. were on the way out to an area that looked good on the gps then the steering started to play up so we decided on another spot close by and the kgs just happened to be there along with a multitude of other species , not complaining tho . had several other people say the same thing about the kgs
