Feedback on 40hp, 4 stroke Yamaha and Suzuki outboards
Hi guys. I own a 4.5m fibreglass Pongrass Surtfmaster. Quite an old boat, which has been converted from a forward control to a tiller steer. It is powered, at present, by a 40hp Mercury Lightning XR (Tohatsu), which goes really well. At my age (heading towards 75) I am looking to get away from pull starting a 3 cylinder motor, as well as having to manually lift the motor. Mixing fuel is also a pain. So am looking to re-power with a similar size 4 stroke with electric start, power trim and tilt.
I have searched the net to try and find some non-biased comments and it is difficult. At this point I am interested in either a Yammy or a Suzy. I had a Yammy 90hp 2 stroke about 10 years ago and I loved it. I've never had anything to do with a Suzuki, but understand they are good. I would appreciate any comments from fishos who have run either of these motors.
Thanks in advance.

Yamaha all the way
Poppy,
Ive got a 4.29 rampage (Stacer) with a Yamaha 30 horse 4 stroke, electric start, trim tilt. It makes things so much easier.
Had it for 12 months now and done about 75hrs. it has not missed a beat since new and the fuel economy is awsome.

Both amazing good engines
Both amazing good engines seen yamahas with 5000 hrs
saw suzis do the same (commercial oufits up north)
suzi been doing 4stroke longer, yammaha caught up
i believe it comes down to price and service (and the price of the mechanical service) in your local area
thats it
depending on where u are , there can be up to 18 % price difference where u buy, i found before i bought mine

Thanks for the feedback
The above pretty well confirms my thinking. I'm sure that the Suzi is a great motor, but the Yammy comes in costing much less and the price includes battery, fuel tank and installation onto the boat. I think I would be happy with the Yammy.
Cheers

Quotes - Both Tiller Steer 40 hp 4 stroke
Boat City Yammy incl prop. Battery. Fuel tank and fitting. $7,800
All Boats Suzi Motor $8,100. Battery $150. Fuel tank $75.00. Fitting $600. Total $8,925
Hence, it will be a Yammy, I think.
