Exxy weather
Submitted by pale ale on Tue, 2012-10-16 13:28
I'm travelling from Karratha down to Exxy for a long weekend (this weekend)
Can any of the locals, please give me their thoughts on how the weather will be Sat / Sun. I dont wanna tow a 2.5 ton boat 600km if it wont get used.
Thanks, doesnt look too bad on the forecast, but i have no local knowledge.

haha
Its always crap down there, thats why I moved! :)
Looking at the forecast looks like half decent s.westers, basically means the gulf will be pretty good but don't get caught out having to come all the way back if the wind comes accross the range, or start heading when you see it coming. (Ex reef etc, gets pretty average if it comes accross range strong)
Inside on the west side be fine, go down south passage and troll back up to north passage be an option as well if it is average, might be a bit hard bottom bogging. Otherwise looks like gulf glassoff weather in the arvo's which I would be expecting, not sure if the sails are showing up yet, but shouldn't be too far away. Probably rule the rons out unless you don't mind a bit of smash n bash, certainly won't be joyous weather, but looks fishable. Depends if its a family trip or a boys fishing mission... Still be plenty of whales and mantas in the gulf if you want bonus brownie points.

Dont need brownie points.
Dont need brownie points. Was hoping to get out deep and get a couple reds or goldbands.
What species are common inside the gulf? I am happy just to troll lures around for trout and maybe jig some spangos.
It is a big decision to tow the boat that far, but having only fished there once before at Gamex, I would like to try the bottom bashing, without having to travel 50kms, as we do off Dampier
Thanks Adam

Just got back last week
Paley when I was down there last week it blew its arse off,was supposed to be 10-15 every day but was closer to 30-40 knots.I came back early and said `i would never tow a boat down there again.Plenty off other people sitting in the park just as pissed off as I was.A tiinny wouldnt be a bad option if you went early and came back after a short fish as it was coming in between 8 and 9 am.Might have been just a shit week like we get up here but some of the other guys had been there 2 weeks waiting for a fish.good luck
There are two types of people ,do'ers and watchers
Right now the do'ers are the doing it
And the watchers are watching us do it

s.westers
Really depends how strong the s.westers are. I would be saying they'd be on the borderline at this early stage to be deep on the westside.
As for the gulf, not a hell of tasties without doing a fair few kms, unless your going to spear the shallows or really know the ins and outs. Personally with the forecast the way it is assuming it will stay the same, if you got a small boat then take that, do the shallows on the west side for spangos, gulf for a dive or squid, or BoR for crabs.
Edit: Solly just beat me to it, but there ya have it. Keep an eye on the forecast, if it drops then prob take it, stays the same I wouldn't bother.

Geez, still slightly tempted, but had made up my mind not to take the boat.
Which website has the most accurate forecast?
