Exmouth Advice needed!

Hey guys new to fishwrecked the forum always pops up when im typing questions into google so thought it be best i join up so G'day!

Need some info I'm heading up to exmouth at the start of may with my folks and fiancé for 5 days. Folks are driving through the center and picking me up in my patrol from the mine I work at outside Newman.

We have a full day booked with onstrike charters just for the 4 of us and a day whale shark diving. What I wanted to know from anyone who has been up there is can u suggest some other sites/good fishing spots/sight seeing we should check out? Also what fishing gear we will require? Apart from the day with onstrike we will be land based.

I'm taking shimano starlo stix tour pro 2-4kg with 2500, t-curve 4-7kg with stradic 4000, 11ft heavy surf rod with 8000. What sort of terminal tackle, lures, plastics would you guys recommend? Weights, sizes and brands. Full newbie to the area so all and any advice very much appreciated!

Cheers

Chris

Hi

Hi BigSpinna,

For your gt's, go to Mildura wreck road and go out to the end, once at the end carpark if you walk south (there is a track that you can drive to save time) there are heaps of rocks and country through there that produces.  The bay to the north has spanglies, bluebone and queenies.

The boys have the other stuff sussed, go see the gorges, snorkel the beaches turquoise/oysters, take your time in the national park on the beaches - quite a few good hidden away areas that do need walking to.  Sandy bay is particulary nice for a picnic to get the brownie points up.

When you go out with Josh on Onstrike, mention you are from the fishwrecked site, he is a mate and will look after you.

Cheers,

Adam

Hey Adam,

Thanks a lot for the info mate will give mildura wreck road a go and so the missus doesnt think the whole trip is about fishing (which in my mind it mainly is :P) i will spoil her to a picnic at Sandy Bay.

Josh has been really helpful with any information i have been asking seems like a good bloke il be sure to mention you and fishwrecked when we head out with him. He suggested getting a custom popping rod made by Matt Gates but it was a bit outta my price range.

Do you have any suggestions for a decent rod around the $400 mark to pair with the Stella?

Cheers again!

For popping?

Around that price the T-curve GT Special is a good option - cheaper than $400 too these days

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Just got back on the weekend

Just got back on the weekend and there were plenty of fish on that mildura stretch, however no big GT's so a back up plan was necessary from big popping gear. Had hours of fun spinning small stick baits, poppers and twisties catching good size queenies, trevally of all sorts and some big spangled emporer. A lot can change between now and when u leave but have a blast and hope u get some good fish!

Not too many pics as the mate who I went with travelled to the states the day after we got home and took his camera do have a few though so I'll try get them up at some point.

As for the lures yo zuri hydro tigers worked quite well. I think the best stick bait we used is called a bluscode pencil or something like that be careful on those ones though the trebbles are only small more designed for 2500 size reels so could bend out if u go to heavy, we got bricked a few times though so 4000 is probably better. White and yellow seemed to be a really good colours, All the bait up there is really blue at the moment so something blueish I dare say would be good also. Bullchops worked well with any bigger stuff that was hanging around.
