blue or white spotties

Am looking at getting a new set of spotties for my cruiser and was just after peoples opinions on which is better, white or blue, and if i should go pencil beam, spread or combination. Any suggestions on particular brand/model would be greatly appreciated also. Am looking at spending a max of $400

The blue lens will produce a whiter light but a light that may be 'a bit yellow' will have a better spread and intesity, Just get HID upgrades for the spotties from e-bay, man that gives sleeping koalas high in the trees skin cancer.

Yeah get a set of lightforce 240 or hella 4000 and put a HID kit in them.

I got 4000s on my ute with the HID kit and i can nearly X-Ray kangaroos when i drive passed them.

In have 240 blitz and after about 5 years the covers got a yellow tinge to them from the sun so I replaced them with blue covers as apparently the light is better, to be honest I dont think it makes too much difference but I do prefer the blues

Depends where you are

Depends where you are driving. I got a HID kit for my Hella Rallye 4000s and it was awesome. I picked the middle colour which was pretty much white. For dirt driving the orange/yellow penetrates the dust better though so that it worth considering. I got one spread and one pencil but with the HIDs you could get both spreads as they throw so much light forward anyway. Once you try HID it will be hard to go back.

It is a simple answer

If you run halogen bulbs the blue covers give a white looking light and help with reflection off street signs ect.If running hid then no need to run blue covers they just mess with you light.I run 240 blitz hid converted. My first pair lasted almost 10 years, several roos,a camel and a few birds. It took to ass end of a prado that changed lanes in the wet to kill them.

If your going to get spotties

Mon, 2012-04-02 21:44

If your going to get spotties I would advise of spending the extra and going the hellas.  I sold my HID lightforces as they are both pencil beams.  You can focus them out a bit but it still doesn have the spread of a good combo kit.  And the HID light is a bit of a fad for me.  Sure the white lights look good, but I found they glared off signs more and I didnt have the focused penetration of the halogens.  Had alot of roos go past and I didnt notice them til they were car side.  Gone back to halogens now and rate them so much better.  We also put HID kits in our spotlighting lights and have gone back to halogen for same reason.  And the fact that things wont sit when you are trying to burn thier eyes out...

Good luck with it and dont be afraid of spending decent money for decent lights.

Hid lights a bit of a fad

Tue, 2012-04-03 07:08

They said that about soft plastics when i started fishing with them as well.Last trip north and the last 6 months driving to the farm i havent seen a truck with halo bulbs in it so i think i will stick with my Hids.I had Hellas and a couple of other before the lightforce but the bases shit themselves with salt and hard track driving. The lightforce i just killed are one of the first batches that they bought into WA.They lasted 4 times as long as the others.I am open to using other lights but they wont be 4000s.

Internal Ballasts

Thu, 2012-04-05 13:28

If converting spotties to HID then i would give the LF 240Blitz a miss, the ballast will have to be mounted in the engine bay.  I buy the Cheap IPF's, 1 spread, 1 spot and buy 70w hid kits, Cloour temp 5000k.  Quality light, and hid kits are excellent in the those specs.  I do upwards of 35000km a year at night, best bang for your buck out there.
