Deep Water Point Ramp
Submitted by Chinbald on Fri, 2020-01-10 20:40
Have launched at Deep water Point ramp most days this week as still on leave until Monday. Cant believe that a fair bit of coin has been spent on the upgrade of this ramp but there is no allocation for boat trailer parking. Today there was one available spot which I loaded with eskys buckets etc while solo launching at midday with only 5 or 6 cars with boat trailers total in the car park, all the rest of the trailer bays where filled with single cars
Surely 10 trailer only spots can be allocated but I guess all will back to normal come Feb 1
Yet to crack a 7 “ crab this season but got a few that are close.

Nice feed
Great feed chinbald, but if you were solo you'll need to check the new limit on crabs in the swan mate.

THE Department of Health has
THE Department of Health has renewed their warning for people not to eat fish, crabs or shellfish collected from within a section the Swan River.
The Department issued a warning late last year, and have reiterated the seriousness of consuming seafood from the river.
The warning zone extends from Pelican Point to Como Jetty and upstream to Tonkin Highway Bridge.
This as of three days ago.( 7th Jan)

Different Day
Love a bit of social media assumption. Pictured crabs where from Thursday afternoon (blowing its tits off crab) with my eldest daughter. Have had a great week on the water 7 days straight with 4 baldies 2 black arse, 120 odd whiting 40 Swan Crabs. As you can see there are only nine and very rare I dont bag out so must of been a bit slow. Best thing is that yesterday I let go 7 monsters on the last run as all ready our had 15. Midday on the Swan with a beer and not a boat to be seen. Nearly every net had a big crab in it. Unfortunately have to go back to work Monday. Cooking up Whiting and Squid tonight we caught today once the wind dropped. Cant wait for Australia Day, we live in a great spot

Don’t shoot the messenger
No social media judgement here. No harm intended chinbald, just stating the obvious, that you said solo, so it was interpreted that you were solo, and therefore over the new limit.

you sure there wasn't an armada of crab fishers ?
you sure you weren't walking on the floats of crab nets ?
as some might suggest.... :)

Of course!
Midday during the working week is a PERFECT time to ascertain how many recs participate in crabbing the swan!
Combined that with the fact a toxic algal bloom has taken out 80%+ of the main crabbing area in the swan river atm.....
for someone that portrays themselves as clever and reasonably knowledgeable, you don't do yourselves any favours trying to prove that pescatore.

Ahhh Scotto, if only you knew
Ahhh Scotto, if only you knew how many laughs you've given us with your Swan River crab genocide prophecy...
Obviously we dont crab the algae effected area, we're further downriver of course but as 80% of the crabbing area as you claim is effected by algae you'd think we'd be walking on all the floats and tip toeing around the armada of boats whove moved downstream right ?
Wrong mate. Again.
But thanks for the lols.......

Paid Parking
Can get away with 5-7 dollars a session at Deep Water Point. unlike the East Freo ramp that has hiked up to $16 for 4 hours+. Launched there twice this week and the ranger was handing out tickets both days. Yesterday a lot of patience was needed as the retrieval efforts of a few in front where very ordinary.
I should have mentioned above that I generally drop the boat in solo and have friends or family come down for a crab as we live close by .Going back to the original topic it shits me that you have a boat launching facility that does not allocate trailer only parking. It gets pretty busy down there with a Dome Cafe and the picnic/ walking crowd.

Deep water point ... I agree
Deep water point ... I agree with you regarding parking !! some people even double park in the bays and only buy 1 ticket. when did it get upgraded? I was only there a month or so ago taking the kids skiing

Ramp Fees
I got caught out the other week (my lack of attention) at Point Walter boat ramp. Launched, packed the family in the boat, parked the car and raced back to the boat not noticing the big sign saying paid parking!! Expensive crabs that day. Just used to launching from Woodies, Point Peron etc where it's free.
Doesn't seem to be many options along the swan. Have done Gentilli ramp a couple times but parking is very limited there. Parking bays seem to get little attention when designing boat ramps, although there must be a big gap in users between normal times and peak times.

@ point walter, you can use
@ point walter, you can use the easypay app from your phone. No ticket required and you only pay for the minutes you use.
It saved my bacon the other day when i was nearly out of the heads and remembered i hadn't got a ticket/logged the parking app!

Sounds Good. I will look
Sounds Good. I will look into it. I'm not usually a regular user of ramps in the swan (or any paid parking really), so wasn't aware of the app.

Easypay is an awesome app,
Easypay is an awesome app, like you say you only pay down to the minute for what you use. No machine and ticket bullshit.

I almost got caught out.
I almost got caught out. Parking on the lawn beside the driveway, i read the part of the sign that said cars or empty trailers only, completely missing the sign above it that said it was a paid parking area (the main carpark was full).
After getting back to the car, i noticed that all on that strip had a notice under the wipers and started swearing in my head after properly reading the sign but thankfully it was a notice about road closures.
0 crabs and 0 fine so i was relieved.

Is that for real
16 bucks for 4 hours parking at ramp, shesh don't boat owners already pay through the nose for everything associated with owning a boat.
It's getting beyond a joke the fees that some of these councils charge.

To top it off the water
To top it off the water pressure in the wash down area is turned down so low I've ended up flushing my outboard at home. Much easier for me now to bypass East Freo and head straight to Woodies if I hit the sound, extra 10 mins and heaps of free parking and I don't get stuck behind the packs of Lance Armstrongs taking up the entire lane of Preston Pt Road.
Officially off the Pies bandwagon
