Deck wash intakes

i am looking at installing a deck wash pump, probably a jabsco parmax 4 or similar. i don't want to drill any holes in the hull for intakes and un-necessarily introduce a risk of split hoses and sinking! therefore i am thinking i will mount an intake on the transom (i can do this without drilling into the hull). I am looking at a stainless steel live bait tank intake that consists of 1/2 inch tube that curves forward so that water is forced up with the movement of the boat through the water (hope that make sense!). my question is to those who have installed (or know about) deck wash systems is, will the water pressure introduced by this sort of intake adversely affect the operation of a self-priming pump?

yes
they are not designed to have water forced up them all you have to do is hack saw the pick up so that it is straight and doesnt curve under the hull i have the same set up on my boat works well

I have one of those pick ups
I have one of those pick ups and a self priming pump, works perfectly as it is.
Its no different to the effect of having a water tank feeding it from above the pump.

i have one as well mate and
i have one as well mate and it dose have a bend in it and face forward.
there is a ball valve tap in between so when travelling and not in use it is turned off, so no probs there.
the thing with not having it facing forward is when travelling back to the ramp we slow down a tad and wash the boat down on the way in, with the straight type i dont think it would pick up water to well on the move.
also when using the live tank.. i have it connected to the tank while on the move and it overflows my tank without having the pump turned on..
cheers ron
