Keep in mind with the Bar crusher the dealer is closing down.... Not sure who if there has been a new dealler oppointed but if you need warranty work or dealler support it might make things more complicated.

I saw what might be a nice
I saw what might be a nice riding Ali the other day at Rockingham Boating, went by the brand name of Bullet Boats. might be worth a look. Otherwise I would look at the Chivers, particularly the "Tiger Shark", i know it is a little bigger than your suggested size but the hull design looks pretty good.
P.S. I own a 560C Barcrusher and think it is great but would like to upsize one day.
Wanderer does make a very good point, Offshore Marine are doing good deals on the Barcrushers as a result but it might pay to see who if anyone is taking over the dealership of them.

I have a little 4.5 , its solid as and is very stable. All 4mm ,very unique hull - but a little power hungry
The workmanship by the boys is first class .
When i get a bigger boat i will be going back for sure .
Other craft under construction at the time were very impressive.
Make sure you check them out before you commit.

Nice reverse chines makes it a very stable and dry boat.
His workshop is in Rockingham just a bit futher down the road from Rockingham Boating.

a couple of boats ago i had a 2008 quintrex 620 offshore i bought new from Maz at all boats and it was the best riding ali i've had personally (i've had 8 others) most who went in it commented on the ride .

i've been in 3 coral lines and didn't like any of them, out of 10 ali's that i've had they rank in the worst 3 for ride, although they do look nice and are built strong!

I have 5.70m Quintrex legend. With the 2.40m beam is has a great ride in all weather. Also very stable with 3 fishing on one side whilst drifting.

5.5 and the 670, i nearly bought one a couple of years ago as they look nice , but they ride HARD! in saying that i have had a cuople of other well known brands that ride just as hard, my trailcraft 660 09' model was just as bad. cheers

reverse chines debate
I have an Ally 6.1 with those big reverse chines. They have their good points but also bad, noisy as and they slap hard at times when you are just cruising at 10 knots or so looking for bottom. Think glass is the go for my next boat, no go with the reverse chines wide 2.5 beam with such a short length (6.1 metre). nev

Sadly all plate ali boats do ride hard.
They are a chiropracticers delight.
The pressed "special hull design" ones still ride hard and are very thin in wallsize.
Soft riding boats are realy only found in Fibreglass.
Rear deadrise of minimum 19 degrees and a very "fine" entry makes it "soft" riding

It's Glass for me
It's Glass for me all the way, great ride, quiet travelling and at rest, not like a noisy tin fridge on those cold winter nights but there is some great tin boats on the marlet.
locally the Bar Crusher as one of my mates uses his off Windy Harbour[Real Mens Water] and loves it and not so local is the Ocean Master.
Ocean Master boats are sold in Darwin by Territory Marine, don't know about local and trust me they are awsome both in rivers and at sea [personal experience] they ride like a dream in rough as guts water, dry and at rest it feel like your on a jetty, stable as.
Last week we had 5 80 to 100kg blokes on one side and it just sat there, while we netted another Barra.
The boat is 6.1metres and powered by a 175 E Tec, will do 80ks easily, cruises at 65.

Don't see too many ab boats
Don't see too many ab boats in back crushers down that way. They mostly run edencrafts which are based on a 1960's design.
The oceanmasters are nice but that 6m you went on would be around the 100g mark to buy. Alot of money for a 6m boat.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

Hey Wanderer,
the ride is reasonable from the Coraline 670.
When I compare it to Trailcraft, Custom Jackaman (6.2) and a Westerberg that i ahve recently been out on (all of similar size) it is comparible in a head sea, maybe even better, but with a following sea it gets pushed around a lot (more than the other boats).
The boat is solid, and the few issues I have with the hull seem to be fixed in the new hull shape (which was in the paper a few weeks back). Not sure if this improves the downwind performance.
I'll go glass next time, but its a few more $$ than I could afford this time.
Dont get me wrong, its not that I hate my boat, just dont think I would buy it again.

Ally will always ride harder, fact of life.
I like ally though cos it handles more i.e running it up the beach, crunching trailer while beach or drive on retrieve, banging against a jetty at the islands on a sloppy day etc.
Everything is a compromise in life, just got to weigh it up.
Ally-
harder ride, harder to keep paint on, looks more utilitarian, lighter and easier driven, physically tougher, generally cheaper used.
glass-
heavier, takes more power/juice, looks alot better, scrapes easier, costs more (USUALLY), inevitably a better ride due to weight and more complex hull shapes.
having said that I reckon if I was buying again itd be a US import, Seafox/Trophy WA etc.

i love glass boats i know they do ride alot better in rough conditions but they are all most twice as heavy as ally and when you do hit anything(especially when you hit reef or a whale) it will cost yaa. I am a big fan of shallow water fishing and its cheaper and easer to repair ally.(I am a ally welder) . But Its all about what the 3.0 litre turbo hilux can pull out off the water.
A brand new 2011 coraline 6.2 ocean runner at boat city with the works sounder,gps,drive on trailer saftey gear etc. drive away cost $83.000 in the driveway OR
6.8HT Barcrusher with 150 yamaha drive on trailer.but no sounder or gps,plotter or saftey equipment for 76.000+ .both brand new.
Can a hilux 3.0 turbo tow a boat at that size with minimal impact to the car. Do you think the hilux can carry a boat at that size to say denham or further sitting on around 90km to 110km and happly pull it out of the water
And i know the the speed limit with a trailer is 100km.

insurance is there to protect
insurance is there to protect you if you are unfortunate enough to run aground or run into a whale.
I've owned a custom built plate boat before & if I ever chose to go plate again (never, as I have seen the light in glass), I would choose a manufacturer that has the reputation & backing - particularly from a resale perspective. It appears the stabi, barcrusher & surtees attract a better resale.
IMO, resale is important if you find yourself in a financial pickle. Another fw member on here looked into a 6.7 coraline (quoted plus $90k) & I could only imagine what it would be worth in a few years - just a limited market IMO.
Out of the boats you've mentioned above, I'd got the crusher.
Re; tow vehicle. Lux is rated to 2.25t (chassis & suspension limitations). I suspect you'd be maxing out the capacity with these boats.

Was towing my boat with a 79
Was towing my boat with a 79 series toyota, could not get over 75km with a head wind and burn 25++++L per 100km. Now tow with my new Isuzu Dmax and can sit on 100kph burning 16-19 L per 100km. We also tow it with the work hilux and it is the same as the Dmax. 3l turbo = more speed less fuel.
To give you some idea I have towed my boat over 8000km in the last 8 months!!!!
Wont get in to the Pros and cons of Ally vs Glass both have merit
I went Ally as with the tides up here my boat spends a fair amount of time still high and dry sometimes on less then ideal ground or being launched into shallow creeks but if I just fished just offshore I would have a good look at some glass boats. No one boat is ideal at everything its all a compromise

Hi Fishentology, In regards to towing, I have a Nissan Navara ST 2.5 Lt Turbo Diesel and I tow a 6m Seafarer Victory no worries. And if you know anything about Seafarers, they aren't the lightest boat. The Navara does have a 3 ton towing capacity, not sure on your Hilux. So I reckon you should be alright, check the cars specs though.

Seafarers do what no other fibreglass manufacturer does - build deck room. Along with the ride, Im amazed more people dont own them. You dont tend to see many for sale either, which also says something about the model. (Now owned by the Haines group)

Check your specs on the lux
Check your specs on the lux im pretty sure it has a 2500kg towing capacity. Those boats you are looking at will fall under it but be care full by the time you add fuel water and gear it may well be over it. speak to the dealer(s) and take the boats for a spin on the water and behind your tow vehicle.

i picked up a demo diesel
i picked up a demo diesel quintrex 670 offshore hard top late last yr for 70k with under 10hrs on the clock. i agree that i is by far the best riding ali hull ive been in, the variable deadrise helps take the slap out in choppy conditions, tho not eradicated, nor is it in a glass boat. i picked this hull for power to weight ratio and so far im luvin it and ive been in some hairy shit recently which i breezed thru without a sore back lol.
i tow it with a lt 3ltr turbo diesel rodeo with relative ease...even towed it to exmouth and back from perth lol proly not ideal...
