 Hey Guys,

I am interested in getting some crays by hand, can you get them off the Beach? If so where?

Cheers

Beach Crays

 G'day Sam

Yes you can noose them when swimming off the beach/reefs. Most of the crays are moving further offshore now but there are always some residents hanging around.

I wouldnt recomend you try unless it is a very calm day unless you are an experienced diver as it involves getting under ledges and the swells can hold you there for quite a while sometimes. You need to time it right and have a good breath holding ability for when you time it wrong. Everybody gets it wrong sometimes.

When the crays are in close, you can tell because there will be a stack of cray pot floats closer to the beach, you can also get a feed off the marina walls. Be very careful there as the swells can push you hard into the rock holes.

Good luck.

...used to do ok there, about 100m swim to the reef. Are you chasing them only with your hands? Best advice...get a cray loop!

And take heed of the words above, make sure swell is right down, preferably less than a meter.
