Coral Bay:The Town Without Pity. lmao
Submitted by Cardinal on Mon, 2013-06-03 08:20
There was a skit on sunday night channel 7 about a 'bite club' ( people who have been attacked by sharks). There was a victim from Coral Bay (David Pickering) who says he got bitten by a tiger shark. It wasnt. It was a reef shark only around the 1.5m mark. He told everyone that is was a tiger to sell his story. He then got run outta town when the media showed up. You think we were gonna help them with a dodgy story. Dont bloody think so...

dunno
I don't think the story/piece really needed to go to bagging on a small town, was pretty poor in my opinion.

Agree with you there Ad's,
Agree with you there Ad's, typical media crap. For a very small town who's existence is based solely on tourism you can understand why they would be hesitant on the media attention. Also pretty cautious on the "Tiger shark" bite. Very unusual indeed.
If the lord did not mean for us to eat fish and game, he wouldn't have made them outta meat

Haha classic typo there, bitten by a whale shark! For sure its meant to say whaler shark.
If this is the incident Cardinal is referring to and its Greg Pickering you're talking about you should be ashamed of yourself mate. Greg's a legend when it comes to spearfishing in WA and has nothing to prove to anyone. The guys holds 20+ WA records and even multiple world records including the much sought after record for spanish mackerel @ 46kg. Getting nailed by a shark of any size is no joke and while Greg was bitten by a 1.5m bronzy he has for sure had many a run in and close calls with big tigers plenty of times during his days spearfishing.
If it is Greg you're talking about (and considering he was bitten by a 1.5m shark it seems likely) who are you to try and belittle him? How many 46kg mackies have you shot and landed lately? How many world records do you hold? If its not Greg and theres some other joker called Dave Pickering who was also bitten by a 1.5m shark then fair play but I still think its poor form trying to publicly belittle him.

1.5m
Well fair enough then I apologize if thats the case, my bad! Just seems like a ridiculous coincidence that theres a Dave Pickering, from the same state and area with the same last name who was also bitten by a matching description same size 1.5m shark... Greg's also well known and a likely candidate to have been contacted by the media to share his story.
Even if its not him I still think its poor form on your behalf trying to belittle someone publicly acting as if you chased him out of town being some shining light of truth (when we all know you got caught out lying on these forums very recently).

shark attack
I am over it mate all good I was only defending Greg Pickering and apologized after seeing it was indeed a Dave Pickering, bit of a freakish coincidence but a coincidence all the same! And yeah it was only a harmless fib mate no harm done but starting threads soon after about other peoples fibs you cant expect people not to bring it up!
All the news articles and reports actually did say 3m tiger and I remember the news report at the time even a video interview with him saying bitten by a 3m tiger shark while he was leading a group of tourists on a snorkel.
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-01-19/man-attacked-by-shark-in-wa/3783326
Is there actually any proof it wasnt a 3m tiger that took a bite? Did he admit it wasn't or did one of the tourists come forward and say something? I do remember thinking at the time he was lucky to keep the arm if it really was a 3m tiger...

coral bay
I was in coral bay in 79 and me and a mate caught a 13FT tiger shark in side the reef on a set line the then pub had a gantry out the front and we asked if we could weigh it and get some photos of it on the gantry the publican oked it and after a heap of photos (all the boys from east freo f/c were there) the publican came out in a flap and asked us to get rid of it quickly (the shark) we said what was wrong and he said a tourist bus was due in an hour and they didn't need to see the shark , fair enough we thought and got rid of it I was back there last year and had dramas with my car and the local mechanic couldn't have done more for me

The "local mechanic" is a very good friend of mine-youd be amazed at how often he gets shortchanged by people he helps out, yet he still toils away at it even though he has plenty else to go on with.

there certainly is plenty of
there certainly is plenty of large tigers along that strip.
I took manta dive tours along there in the mid 90's for a couple of years and the spotter plane would regularly see thyem cruising along the beach between the Lagoon and Mauds, though would always take a wide berth around us.
After completing the Manta dive we would tonk after it for a look with the spotter plane directing us.
