Changes to overwidth towing regs
Others may have already noticed, but there have been changes to the regs for towing of overwidth recreational boats.
I received my renewal, and hilighted at the end was a box with a long text saying there was changes and details could be found on the Main Roads website.
After a fruitless 30 minutes searching for this info both manually and using their description "Oversize Boat Order", I gave up.
Note
Change to the Class 1 RAV Oversize Boat Transport Period PermitThe Class 1 RAV Oversize Boat Transport Period Permit has been replaced by the Oversize boat Order for recreational boats (refer to our website for further information). If your boat trailer is connected to a business, you will now need to apply for a Class 1 RAV Oversize Period Permit, noting the period permit will now be issued to the towing vehicle and not to the boat trailer (refer to our website for the application form).
So I rang them, and the kind lady directed me to Page 1530 of the Gazette, which then went back to another section of the website that appeared unrelated, and the outcome was;
You no longer require a $50 3 yr permit to tow an oversize recreational boat (not a business).
You still need to abide by all the conditions but just don't require a permit as long as its not a business or reward`.
I did point out to Main Roads, that they could have stated that on the renewal with about 1/3 of the words, or directly by email to all permit holders, but apparently thats too difficult.
Give a man a mask, and he'll show you his true face...
The older you get the more you realize that no one has a f++king clue what they're doing.
Everyone's just winging it.
