pick a nice day without
pick a nice day without breeze and head outside south passage north and back through Mauds. Any sthrly at all and at least your going downwind.
If its a small tinny and tide is high you can go straight across the bay (not certain if thats still allowed or not though?) when heading mauds to CB.
Hug the beach all the way and follow the sand if your unsure.
Also just close to the sanctuary markers (inside Mauds) there are lots of stripy tuna or mack tuna or whatever they are. Fun on light rod and lure.

fair enough, do a run down to
fair enough, do a run down to Mauds then, inside reef, just follow another boat or hook up with someone in the park. Plenty of other small boats around, you wont be alone.
Log in with Sea Rescue, try pretty well straight out off mauds tip 1 km or so near sanctuary markers and look for birds. Almost always there and its inside the reef. A bit more confidence and head a mile or so to the "Elbow", north end of reef before Mauds passage. Always birds working around there.

South of the marina
When we were last up there in '09, we only had a 4m runabout so we only fished inside the reef. Mostly headed south of the marina and once we got out of the santuary zone we would trawl a lure...picked up a nice spangly. We also anchored near a bombie and caught trevelly, red throat, etc....always enough for a feed each day.
Watch out for the black tips because they're keen to grab your catch before you can get it into the boat!!
Team gates are heading up there this Easter for a week and this time we've got the bigger boat so we're looking forward to heading out wide....only 10 more sleeps
