Contract awarded for Woodman Point upgrade

Work will begin later this month to significantly improve boat-launching facilities at Woodman Point.
Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan said today that the State Government had awarded a contract for the $3million project to J J McDonald and Sons of Belmont.
“This will double the number of boat-launching ramps and provide a disabled access pontoon,” Ms MacTiernan said.
“Follow-up works will provide a sealed parking area for 350 cars and trailers to cater for the growing number of boat owners using Cockburn Sound.
“The expansion and improvements will allow Woodman Point to meet its potential as a major recreational boating facility and ease congestion and delays for users.
“All the required approvals are in place, so the contractor can immediately start work on the project to ensure completion in early September - ready for a busy boating season.”

The Minister said the work would include the construction of:

· a four-lane boat ramp with two holding jetties;

· a floating universal access jetty;

· access roads and footpaths;

· rock revetments;

· drainage; and

· minor works including fencing, barriers and signage.

The project is the first stage of a major upgrade of the Woodman Point Recreational Boating Precinct.
Ms MacTiernan said expressions of interest were currently being considered for the operation of a boat-stacking facility with a capacity for more than 300 vessels on site.
As well as improving the parking, future upgrades would include the development of sites for light marine industry.
"Together, the improved launching facilities and boat stacker will play an important role in meeting the growing needs of boat owners in the metropolitan area," the Minister said.

I'm sure I'll catch a biggy oneday.

Let's hope they don't get in the way, whilst development is taking place.

Maybe security could be improved.
