i burly with mulies at the beach. i just mash them in a bucket mix with water and splash it out as far as i can, even though it appears to get washed up and go nowhere the scent still gets out. if your near safetybay you can buy 20kgs of mulie seconds (damaged ones) great for burly for 20 bux
you can buy bulk ofle at safety bay tackle which is twenty bucks or you can buy a burley bomb which is mashed up mulies i think in 1.5kg and 3kg for cheap as
I take a star picket with me and bang it in away from the tide line then tie a rope off it to a hessian bag which sits just in the water/wash zone. Fill the bag with mulies (or whatever bait your using) some pellets mixed with fish oil and sometimes even a can of cat food chucked in. Gives off a nice steady slick that gets the fish fired up, has worked sweet on bigger tailor at wedge for me vs. no burley.
or you can even use a 2L coke bottle thats had holes spiked into it, or simply just dig a hole in the sand where the water laps up to and let nature get to it. In the meantime the oils will seep out and start the process.
Down south I've even seen them use a 44 gallon drum on floats held to shore with chain. Thats dedication.......
was going to say the same as the last two but you dont have to use mulies , any dead fish that is oily or decaying (altho stinks ) will do the same. some people just tie a rope through the head of the fish and tie it up on the water line , only prob you might have is that sharks and rays will also pick up on the scent
make your own burley with old fish, crab shells and just about any thing. freeze it in paper cups. put one cup in a little mesh crab bait net, tie it to a thin rope and throw it out about 10- 15 m off the beach, tie the other end to something on land and let it do it,s work.
some pollard, some chicken pellets and tuna oil, or whatever takes your fancy. You need to make it a little mushy and then pour it into old ice cream containers and chuck it/or them in the freezer..
Then when you get to your spot throw the frozen lump of burley near where you are fishing. It will slowly melt and give off a continuous flow of burley.
I sometimes use margarine tubs too as the frozen blocks from those are good to throw out if the wind is in your face.

mulies
I agree with curt.
I just mash some and chuck it in the wash. the waves take it out.
Mulies are my favourite and most versatile bait. Catches nearly anything that swims.
