Broome to Darwin on a jet ski?

Thinking of making this journey one way or the other...... a fully kitted out top of the wazza jet ski with all the fruit and an Extractor Conquest Utility Sled loaded with fuel (and cold beer), have a heap of fuel dumped by helicopter or get it from the cruise boats..pre-arranged of course.....

thoughts?

Mothership

Jim1 could possibly use his forthcoming boat purchase as a mothership for your expedition.

serious indeed

I plan on using the RED EPIC X camera x 2 and shooting stock footage @5K 120 fps and 2K @ 300 fps, I will be shooting footage of places that have never seen a 5K cinema camera and my jet ski can get in super shallow water @ the fastest possible speed

Your buying 2 RED Epic X cams?! Thats $50grand worth of cameras?

Holy sheit...... No wonder your selling the house. So add in a jetski, fuel and supplies, the price for production and music, and your well into $100k, you'd want a pretty solid marketing plan and some contract locked in backers too i'd reckon.

Good Luck!

Possible

Tue, 2011-07-12 11:47

And guaranteed you would be the first.......

Best time would be the dry season but the SE winds can play havoc.......

If ya make it to Wyndham you can bunk here for a few days.

Biggest issue for you would be carrying capacity and water would be the limiting factor.........

Crocs would be a regular encounter and you would have to very concious of them, no freeboard on the jetski.....

Anyways it would be an awesome trip, jsut plan and organise it well as there are plenty of boats ploughing the Kimberley over the dry.

Good luck

croc guard

Tue, 2011-07-12 12:43

maybe a stainless grill attached either side of the ski to protect my legs from croc attack. My biggest worry is the tides and my not so good navigation skills :)

Could end up in some serious deep shit and die real easy......could also end up being the ultimate trip of a lifetime

yep there's a whole range of issues to consider

Tue, 2011-07-12 13:02

but would be a worthy trip and everything in life is a calculated risk

preparation is 80% of ensuring a breakdown doesn't occur

problem is most peole dont take responsibility for themselves when something happens and always blame someone else.....

still feasible considering people have kayaked the Kimberley (and circumnavigated Australia)

tides are easy.....every six hours they change......use the tide as it will save heaps of fuel and speed your transit.... there is plenty of anchorage.

dont forget the Epirb

I've walked/trekked solo through some of the toughest country on the planet and never had an issue.

Tue, 2011-07-12 12:20

Would be fun but not the 1st unfortunatly, guys have done right around the whole of australia on jet skies before. Well 95% of it anyway, pretty sure the only section they couldnt get past was the cliffs between steep point and kalbarri.
Good luck tho mate, hope it works out for u and would definently be something id be keen to see.

How much of the coastline are you planning to hug fathom? What about body fatigue, are you going to do some smaller runs first to get your body conditioned.

Seeing a woman just paddled around Australia in a kayak i don't think you will have to many problems in a jet ski,,you might have to wait awhile for a mechanic tho if it does not start 1000km from nowwhere  tho

its been done before so it should be easy.

The guys went around australia and the only issue they had was along the stretch of coast near steep point.

Don't go pass Cassini Island

Fri, 2011-07-15 10:56

Don't go pass Cassini Island - that place is pure magic. Plus it makes a great half way point to dropoff provisions for the journey.

You will need to time tide and wind for tidal crossings like King sound or you might find yourself in a washing machine and going nowhere fast.

Water is more precious than beer and there are a couple of isolated fly-in fishing /tourist camps around the Mitchel Plateau area.

Sounds like a great adventure to me.

What plans have you got for the Bonaparte Gulf crossing?

Does your cost include the price of a recovery operation for you and all your gear??

Or do you expect to buy a $500 epirb and she`ll be right.

There is a whole lot of F/A between Broome and Darwin.

Alot of Unsurveyed water where chopper be the only way to get you out $$$$$$$

Cheers Boomer

check out the write up in F&B mags website of the guys doing Broome to Wyndham in 7m boats, could be a good bit of research and logistics info there. Search "Seamedia"

I could see it being difficult on the logistics side of things-cant wait to see how this goes!

If you get it running, either way we'll all be watching the news saying "hey that legend was on FW" or "hey theres that fruitcake...."

Good luck with it!

 Sound like a great mission,

Personally id be having a back up boat preferably a small jet boat to carry ya gear and could also follow you over the shallow country that you will no doubt be exploring bit of extra insurance.

Murphey will be with you on a long trip like that, '' if it can go wrong, it probably will ''

Good luck Boomer.

Murphey

Mon, 2011-07-18 14:35

yep, aware of the man. can be a nasty bloke at times. definately not going solo, have a mate thats keen to join in, will see how it pans out. lots of others ply those waters in all sorts of craft and having a back-up boat is safer but sorta goes against the grain. If I fuck up and need rescue, rest assured that the tax payer wont be footing the bill, I pay for my mistakes

Murphy contrary to a lot of peoples thinking

Mon, 2011-07-18 14:51

was not a dumb Irishman, but a Nasa Rocket Engineer in the pioneering days, and with all the money and skill they still blew up heaps of Rockets trying to make a straight suasage shape fly. Everytime one blew up the crews use to say "Its Murphy's Law".

So despite all the prep and planning "Murphy" may still get you in that harse environment. But at least think PPPPPP.
