bloody photos
there has been some great photos of catches various members have made with some very big fish being shown.
If i make an observation and offer a bit of advice, it would be a good idea if fw members remember that the green brigade will make use of any material they can get to show fishos in a bad light. showing pictures of blood covered fish and fish impailed on gaffs is courting adverse publicity.
Some years back the hunting and shooting society learned the hard way about showing pictures of game that had been shot and had blood patches on it. there was a great hue and cry over what was seen to be (by the greenies) to be photos of game that had been quote "shot to pieces" by blood thirsty mad men with guns. No criticism of fw members is intended I'm just giving fellow members a bit of a "heads up" about the unforseen consequences of photos of fish showing bloody flanks bulging eyes etc.
I'm a hunter and a fisherman and don't have a problem with such photos, but others will and use such against us.

Got to admit a personal hate
Got to admit a personal hate of mine gaffing fish.
I carry one on the boat , but I'll always net or leader in where poss. it's a last resort.
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

i can see the point about gaffing fish, but hey thats fishing, blood and buldging eyes are common things that happen and u cant do much about it if u want a photo of your fish with barratrouma, things happen, and its a fishing site what else would they epect?

spose if the eyes were
spose if the eyes were bulging out we could just cut them out and wash the blood off and say the fish was asleep.
. i do admit a pic of a clean fish is more appealing to the eye but you cant always wash the blood off and as far as the eyes bulging goes , its going to happen from real deep and you cant stop it

I can also see your point
maybe that's why spearos get such a hard time, and get banned from a lot of places for no particular reason, even though we only shoot what we plan to eat and there are no such thing as undersize fish dying after being released.

Barotrauma
Well that happens, but with the Faulkner's, a clean fish without blood and guts looks a lot better, even though I know its inevitable with fishing, ie gilled hooks etc.
I think the greenies would call it a blood sport without photos. Its a personal choice IMO.

It definitely looks better
It definitely looks better for a photo to have a clean fish bit if u don't have a net and are going to keep the fish to eat then I believe gaffing is fine. Just my opinion
