Could have been the outcome of a phucked freezer really & the missus gave him an ear bashing about not having a stinky bin. Highly unlikely someone would throw away fillets

I wouldav dropped them outa the bags and in the drink, even if it feeds the rays, mind you, if they were at room temp for too long, the bin is the only option

I wouldn't give me friends or family fish from a beggared freezer. Maybe the neighbours though

Had a fun incident with my freezer while I was away from home for my wedding for a week a while back. Yep came home and the freezer had shat itself, with all the contents well and truly matured inside it by then. I didn't even bother looking at what was what, Fish Fillets, Bait, Steaks, Lamb, etc, all just went straight in my bin at home and the bin sat out the front of the house before being collected the next day thankfully. Even more fun was all the juices that had leaked out and had settled onto the floor in a sticky stink goo.

So you might very well find that old mate may have had his freezer die while he was away, so nothing was salvageable to give away. Personally think dumping in the ocean to feed the rays would have been a good idea to. But have to remember that counts as littering if caught by a Ranger. Plus it would depend how far 'matured' the meat was by the time you found it to decide whether or not to even put it in your car to take it and dump it.

personally I dont think its worth a rant.

If you look at it logically, why would someone go to the bother of filletting skinning and boning 50 fish just to chuck them away? Its obviously a freezer failure or similar.

Be a different situation if they were all whole fresh fish dumped...

maybe, if there was no one to spot you and bust you and you had time-where in the metro area could you dump 50 fish without someone whinging either about attracting sharks to the beach or the smell from them being washed up?

I wouldn't worry

Wed, 2013-06-12 09:09

From what I've seen diving around the Ammo jetty, fish and crabs aren't that interested in rotten fish. Nothing would touch the fillets I've had to dump out of my freezer when the plug was knocked out of the socket.

If you have to clean out a freezer the last thing you'd want to do is open all those plastic bags and handle more rotten, stinking fish.

Why would you want to feed the other species?

unless of course you were fishing there at the time and wanted to attract them.

Obviously , he didn't bag them up just to dump them . Most probably forgot to get rid off them on the water and put them in the bin upon his return . Shit happens .

EDIT .. I suppose if you do take spoilt fillets out for burly etc .. fisheries can bust you , so maybe thats not such a great idea

Packed too nicely to be done in ocean I reckon

Wed, 2013-06-12 21:15

Did a trip to kalbarri earlier this year, caught about 6 decent fish. Took me n my mate at least an hour to fillet and pack and label the bags back at home. Would have been harder on a rocking boat.

fisheries would seize the catch and freeze it till the court date along with their gear I reckon.

I had the same happen with a bar fridge that was turned down to zero by my youngest son when he was about 3. This was at our holiday van at the time and he thought he was doing the right thing. I had a Wrasse in the freezer part. Well when we turned up there three weeks later the stench nealry punched me out the door. The worst part was that it had permiated into all the beers in there too, I nearly cried.

Hi

Wed, 2013-06-12 21:46

After not being home for 3 days I came home to find my fish freezer completely defrosted. I have lost all my fillets, squid and occy. The fish was not even cold so couldn't give it away to neighbours.  I didn't exactly have much time to throw the fish into the water and I don't think the guys fishing off the rocks would've appreciated me throwing that much fish, squid and occy around them. I personally don't enjoy filleting fish so was rather pissed off about the waste off fish, time and effort. Fisherking freezer is huge and definitely not poor.

What shit way to have you first post, having to explain the situation to some(not all) conclusion jumpers.

Cant help in the fish fillets department but if you are ever up NOR way send me a PM and you can come and grab some bait I am looking to offload before I head away for a bit, to help you get some bait back in your freezer(new one?).

Thanks buz my deckie has already offered me some fish. What amazes me is the fillets were also with a shit load of yellow tail and herring in 2 big garbage bags with the draw strings pulled tight poser must have bad sense of smell cause I couldn't stay near that bin for more than 30 seconds. He must of spent some time getting half the fillets out digging through all the other shit.

initially i can see why this would piss you off.  50 good fish dying for no reason.  but look a little deaper (as most above have suggested), and it's probably just a freezer failure or something similar.  no way would you go through the trouble of filleting etc just to throw it out.  Perhaps it could have been used as burley or bait, but at the end of the day just looks like bad luck.
