April/May is generally mild ish up there as far as I am aware, unless you get a thumping north westerly.

Not too hot so not pumping south westers, and not late enough to cop the south easterlys of winter.

If you plan to fish the eastern gulf (monkey mia side)  pink snapper bans are in place 1 may - 31 july.  We find january / february are way too windy.   March, the flys come out and its very hot.  April is the best if you are chasing snapper in the eastern gulf.  But there is a lot of other types of fish as well. :)

Sat on anchor at Turtle Bay

Wed, 2014-03-12 15:47

Sat on anchor at Turtle Bay at the top end of Dirk Hartog Island on the 21st of June in 2002, in 30 knots of South Easterly for 4 days. It was cold and misrible.

My only experience up there at that time and it was shit.

Shark bay trick

Wed, 2014-03-12 17:32

After having a couple of trips to that beautiful place and not done any fishing due to the wind. We now don't book any particular date just go once we can see the wind is dropped after march. 5 of us now wait by the long range forecast for a 5 day break in the wind, it may come in march more likely in April. Either way we now get a full fishing trip. Some weather forecasts are better than others so watch a few. The best way to plan fishing trip if you can leave on 2 or 3 days notice that we have found.

We all work for ourselves or 1 guy is able to swap his shift with someone. Accomodation is easy to get with a few days notice.

Shark bay cottages are opposite the boat ramp with a fish cleaning station out front and ocean views. With good weather you can explore the huge area that is shark bay.
