Best Rod to match Stella

 Hi all,

I just got the OK from the missus to get a Stella 8000 for some heavier bottom fishing. Just wondering on a good rod to match it up to for Pilbara bottom fishing. Ive got her 5000 on a Jigging Master Ocean Devil and it goes well. Any ideas are appreciated. Cheers.

Budget??

Sat, 2013-03-23 10:50

We just bought our mate a new Daiwa monster mesh that is good bang for buck $200

if the wallet allows the saltiga costal rods are bloody nice to fish with. Or if they are too pricey you can't go past something like a daiwa demon blood.

it all comes down to what you want to spend.

Im thinking about 50-60lb braid

Sat, 2013-03-23 13:30

I will be putting a 10000SW spool on it to get more on the reel. Or any other spools that are recommended... I had a look at the Demon Bloods down in Perth and they look like a nice rod. I was probably thinking in the $250-$400 range for the rod.

som or jigging master 16000

Sat, 2013-03-23 16:00

som or jigging master 16000 spool is the go. They are soooooo much better than the stock spools and more than likely cheaper as well. I dont like the tcurve 400 its a bit outdated now. Id look at the jigging master range in the pe5-6 if your happy with the ocean devil.

Demon blood

Sat, 2013-03-23 20:06

Hi there, have the demon blood 3-5. Solid rod with good hook setting power. Tried to upgrade to a smith amj, but its medium action does my head in when bottom bashing in 60-80m with up to 20oz leads. Feels like a short delay when I try to set the hook. So I'm back to my demon blood. Bought my brother a monster mesh 5-6, also a great bottom bashing rod, but a little shorter I think.

cheers

Anyone tried Azusa to suit the Stella 8000SW?

Wed, 2013-03-27 20:26

I have an Azusa 4-8kg to suit the Stella 4000SW and its been pretty good so far. The Live Fibres look like a nice rod. What size would you recommend if I was running 50-60lb Braid? I have the Stella 5000SW for the missus and it was a bit challenging for her to land some of the bigger fish down at Exmouth on the Jigging Master as we were getting nailed by sharks.  How do they compare to the Saltiga Coastals? Cheers.

The Saltiga Coastals are an awesome rod. In terms of strength I am a big Fan of the Black hole cape cod special rods and have built a few of the 250 blanks up. They suit 65lb braid perfectly and a Stella 8000 sits nicely on them. They are worth a look.

 Sorry just saw your earlier

Sorry just saw your earlier post re price. The black hole is too dear for that. T curve 200 is a brilliant rod but only rated up to 50lb. The 400 is a brute of a stick and will get the job done but is not as nice as the 200. A pity they never brought out a 300.

I guess your back to looking at the venoms if you can get one at the right price.

unless you really need more metres of line I would not spend the cash on another spool, put it towards a quality rod.

Venoms vs Jigging Master??

Wed, 2013-03-27 22:09

How do the venoms match up to a Jigging Master or Saltiga? I've seen a Saltiga 56hs for $377? Looks good in 9.5/10 condition. Worth a look?

 The venoms have a parabolic

Thu, 2013-03-28 04:07

The venoms have a parabolic bend so you will feel the rod flex through the foregrip. It feels a bit strange and uneasy at first but that is how it is designed. Not 100% on the Saltiga you mentioned but pretty sure it shuts off earlier than the venom. The JM rods have different ranges for example the 3 kings special has a faster action than the power spell and evolution series. I have no personal experience with them but have heard nothing but great things about the three kings special.

I think the deal on the slightly used Saltiga is great. I haven't fished any of the rods at all but if I had to put them in order of preference I would place the Saltiga and JM three kings Special on equal par closely followed by the JM evoultion Titanium then the Venom.

Venoms now you can get for

Thu, 2013-03-28 11:04

Venoms now you can get for $349 new retail in perth.  good value !

go the 3-8 for NW

I fish exmouth a lot havn't used the 2-5 venom...(prob great for perth) but north venom PE3-8 should be perfect.  guess it depends on how you like to fish though.

also the $44 postage for the saltiga bumps the price slightly.  but I don't know about the saltiga

Thu, 2013-03-28 16:15

maybe try the shimano Terez, great rods, not too pricey and suited to braided lines quite well, TC4 construction. Actually looks the part too being a pearl white, matched to the gold and silver of the Stella. ranges from 15-30lb, 30-50lb and 40-80lb lines, the overhead models got to 150lb.
