What size boat would you need to get out there? Does the swell fly up out there? Would love to go one day

I wouldnt do it in anything
I wouldnt do it in anything smaller than 6m - when the wind comes up it gets bloody rough out there. You can hide around the islands to stay out of the wind but you have to come home sooner or later.

Yeah was there last year.
Yeah was there last year. The swell on the west side can be pretty daunting but that's the best fishing.
as Uncle said plenty of places to get out of it though.

Islands are a long way
Islands are a long way offshore
closest point is about 50km
will need a decent boat
nowhere to hide
look on map at the islands they are long and skinny
only can hide in a southerly in a few spots
swell comes up quick out the back as previously stated.
plenty of closer options along the coast if ur not set up for it
Plenty of folks get into trouble out there
take it easy if u head over

Great place
Can get very messy very quickly. Avoid the gap between Bernier and Dorie unless you are experienced as you can boat surf even on a flat day. Keep away from the corner of cok's as the swell can roll off.
Done it in a 5.8 trailcraft before. Ok when calm but scary in the rough.
