G'Day
G'Day Mark,
Yeah I'm into the sport, lots of support for it on here, and a little bit of negativity.
I recently put up a thread titled 'Latest bang bang trip', bit of a laugh in there for you.
Where abouts are you doing your gun smithing?

If that's a serious offer spearfisher, I'd be happy to organise a trip up this way if I'm still up here in 2013 (95% probability I will be, but it will be my last year).
I'm also driving over to Darwin for a goose/duck trip in late November/early December this year with room in the car if your interested in that.

Hey Seb, WADRay is from down in the south west & there are a few guys down here that get into the bow hunting here. Site sponsor Dunsborough Outdoor Sportz stock a fair bit of gear & Damo is quite the keen hunter also.
Hey Buz, Shannon was down with some of his arsenal last week & mentioned giving you a call. Another mad keen hunter, will have to check if I have your number still to pass it on. He was asking after Sleepy actually, heard from him of late?

Gday Caza(Mark). Your at my local!!!!! :)
Well where i always go for ammo and any other hunting/gun related stuff! Like the other guys i like to do a bit of hunting though there isnt not TOO much down here compared to overseas or up north in the way of bigger game. Spent a few years in Darwin busting HEAPS of bacon........ god i miss that. But bunnies and the odd fox can keep me happy for a weekender down south :)
Good to have another fellow fisher/hunter on board and no doubt will probably bump into you next time i am down at your store.
*you'll have to forgive me not wanting to divulge everything/what calibres i have. Dont really like to advertise TOO much info on a public forum.
Spearfisher, where abouts in Darwin/NT do you hunt? Have you got some stations or do you do the crown land? I, like Big John am dreaming of a day when i do a dedicated hunting trip to NZ. Was just over there recently on the South Island with the missus doing a tourist holiday(though info gathering for a future Trout fishing ad Hunting Trip hahaha), and it is an awesome place. Seems to be alot of potential around the Fiordland and Mt Aspiring regions ;)

Mmmmmmmm NZ trip
Mmmmmmmm NZ trip :D
Spearfisher, i used to have a couple of stations that my mates were allowed to go on(local guys) so i could get on if with them. Mainly around Adelaide River township and along the Marrakai and Mount Bundy regions. My brother is still in Katherine with the RAAF and i actually did a Barra trip up there at the beginning of the year with him. Went out towards the Roper Bar and saw heaps of pigs, horses and donkeys. But alas my brother doesnt hunt, he's into his Gold hunting between Pine Creek and Katherine, still unsuccessful though :(
375HH................ man utterly devastating!!!!!!!
I think the Fiordland would be the challenge i would be wanting, even if a shot wasnt taken. Have spent alot of time running around in Mountains and Jungles with the Army but am feeling a bit like if i ever want to do a kind of trip like this i would still like to be relatively young, fit and a glutton for hardship :)

Gday markGood stuff- not many
Gday mark
Good stuff- not many people get into gunsmithing. I would love to give it a go some day. Ive done up my own target F class rifle- 308 krieger barrel on a trued rem 700 action and custom stock. All the chambering etc was done down here at the gun shop in busso- But Im happy to have done the stock all by hand, did the bedding and finished it off. Its capable of shooting tiny groups all the way out to 900m when I steer it properly. Going to get a 6.5x47Lapua barrel done up and a new stock to go with it soon too.
Been playing with an 8 twist 223 barrel- it was an F class barrel but wasnt happy with it on target. Cropped 4 inches off it and re crowned it now drives 50gr nosler ballistic tips around 3450fps. Best bit though is the fast twist makes them super explosive when they hit fur. Much more than a regular 12 twist 223 would.
The bunnies and foxes get a real hammering around here- estimated tally this year of foxes would be over the hundred mark and the next lot of fox cubs are being born at the moment, hopefully can get close to 200 by january.

Swanbourne is a good range-
Swanbourne is a good range- can get tricky tho. Lots of people go with tactical style rifles but they arent competitive. If you want to join a club, I would say go with Perth Field Rifle Club- its more hunting style rifles. You can also do benchrest at thier range too. Ive been meaning to go up and have a go at a 500m fly event but its a long way to go from Busso. I can stay home and shoot real flies if I want

500 fly
I didn't know Perth feild rifle had a 500m range, I'm the assist sec and membership officer at the silly wet club at Wanneroo complex and we have a few people from other clubs shoot with us because we have a 500m range with 6 benches and a 100m rimfire range with 12 benches.
I am going for the secretary's position in Nov at our club.
I shoot rimfire , centre fire rifles and rimfire pistol and centre fire pistol and air rifle when ever we get time to shoot it, I get most of my stuff from Alexanders and most of my smithing there too, how long have you been smithing there ??
I will be in this thursday to get a bottle of the new black powder substitute to load up in my 45/70 and shoot black powder match with it.
our club runs ,DTL and 5 stand shotgun, rifle and pistol metalic silhouete as well as service rifle and service pistol, 50m rimfire BR, 500m fly and practical hunting and we are just getting set up to shoot steel challenge.
I have 9 rifles and 2 pistols at the moment and I'm tossing up to get a new pistol either 44mag with 6 inch barrel or a 357 mag with an 8 inch barrel.

Mav- that must have been the club then. A mate of mine shoots pistol silly wets- Owen Gray. Ive only been up there once to work up a load for his 30-06 and found a bedding problem with his 204. But it looks a good range to shoot at. Much friendlier than swanbourne I reckon.

You will have to go out to Doug Barnes to get taught by the best (no offence meant).
Nothing wrong with Alexanders tho, I have had good service for a long time there, the facebook page is good as well.
Some pricing needs a sharper pencil tho but for the most part is great, I buy 2000 7mm Sierra match kings every xmas to last me thru the year so I get them all from the same batch same as my powder in 4kg tubs.
Nice to see you on here , if it's fishing you want this is the place to get it.

I think he's down to only working 9 to 3 and having all weekend and most Mondays off, he's out the back of ABCYL in Welshpool after leaving Barry's firarms , He tooled around with my Tanfoglio a few months back and made it shoot good and he also done some work on a rifle of me.
I get my CCI standard velocity ammo from there as it's only $385 for 5000 rounds (I go thru 2 cases a year) also their American Eagle .22 hi velocity ammo is only $30 a brick of 500 and they work great thru my pistol.

Sunday is comp day
Just get there before 8.30 if you want to shoot so you can book in, if you hang around to the end we have a fun shoot after and bring out our toys to play with.
Saturday is a comp too but it's 500m fly in the morning then 10.30 is a metal silly wet comp, then 12. 45 is the start of the practical hunting, some people that shoot all the disaplines stay overnight at the club and have a few drinks and tell war stories of their hunts around a campfire.
I allway have a few rifles and the pistols on the comp day to blast away with.

I also used to Hunt in Africa
I also used to Hunt in Africa with Compound Bow and Rifle. Hunt all sorts of antelope, warthog, Impala, Kudu, Eland and Black Wildebeest. I would love to get in contact with someone to shoot / hunt pigs, feral cats or foxes with the compound bow.
If any of you wants to do an Africa hunting Safari you can send me a PM. I can hook you up with people who have all the facilities. Bow / rifle hunting and transport / accommodation.
Anything you want to hunt. They can even assist you in getting your trophy send over if you want to.

Yeah i do a heap of hunting. Shoot alot of foxs and the likes. Got more guns than i need really.
But lately my guns have taken a back seat to hunting pigs with the dogs.
