I have never even given them a passing thought in the past, now I wearing shoes like a pommy tourist when at sea. If I stop drinking beer when fishing it’s all over!
ThAts pretty scary stuff. I’m usually pulling my pots solo. Would be very easy to get into trouble...gonna head out in a bloody hazmat suit from now on!
A MAN in his 50s has been taken to hospital after he was bitten by a blue-ringed octopus near the Point Peron boat ramp in Rockingham.
He was taken to Rockingham hospital before 10am by St John Ambulance travelling at normal road speed.
St John Ambulance spokesman Dennis Bertoldo said the man was in a bit of pain but did not lose consciousness.
The venom of a blue-ringed octopus can result in nausea, respiratory arrest, heart failure, severe and sometimes total paralysis, blindness and can lead to death within minutes if not treated.
Death, if it occurs, is usually from suffocation due to paralysis of the diaphragm.
This attack comes after a crayfisherman was bitten by a blue-ringed octopus on Friday.
old mate and me pulling the pots the other day he steped on 1 that droped out our pot we didnt know until we saw it squished on the deck , was never going to bite into his foot to tough apart from work he never wears shoes or thomgs
It's not bad enough having the noahs after you now the blue ring occys are out to get you as well.
What next the lovely cuddly dolphins will be lining up to have a go at you followed by the sea urchins.

Pulled one up when checking
Pulled one up when checking the occy pots today, small little buggers can see how people would miss them.
Definitely keeping a close eye out this year, they seem to be around in big numbers
