To all the guys that keep putting up water temps

I was wondering how many of you have actually calibrated your temp reader.I am going to get a new thermo from the fish shop and re do ours before i go north.Seems to be alot of guys that think the temp is no where near the actual temp.

its still an indication
if you go out regulary, it may be 05 of a degree out, but it will be next trip as well so you still getf what the ave temp is

Surface temp
All you are getting is the surface temp which probably only goes down as far as a metre.
To get a bottom temp, get a thermometer and stick it inside a demersal fish as soon as it comes over the side, being cold blooded their temp is roughly the same as the surrounding water.

understand all of that
but if the surface temp. is 25 its better then 23,you still get a comparison

Dive log
Haven't had a temp over 22.5 this year in metro area from the dive computer at depth, but had sounder readings up to 24.5. last weekend was 21.1 in 10 meters oot from hillarys, like canarvonite said surface temp is usually on a meter or so. highest temps in the log are from rotto north side and west end, shallow 22.5 and deep 21. Jurien was cooking though, lowest was 23.5 at 15m

I think you have missed what i was trying to say
Out of the box the temp sensor needs calibrating. You get 10 guys going out of mindarie trolling the same strech of water and they say 10 different temps. One guy came in a few days back and said the water is still around 25.I get a fish tank temp gauge and stick it in near the trannie and then calibate the head unit so i know its right. When one boat reads 19.something and the one right next to it says 24.Something one of you needs to be wrong.

we only use our gauges as our own info on the day Uncle
which is cool but when 20 guys quote different temps it confuses folks.

must admit to never
must admit to never calibrating mine , but it's not like the fishing I do rely's on surface temp changes. may still give it a go for accuracy sake
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

LOL, because a fish tank
LOL, because a fish tank heater is precision implement?
If, and only if, you used a fish tank heater IN CONJUNCTION WITH a decent thermometer or better, you may be getting somewhere.

It doesnt need to be perfect
But they need to be fairly close to accurate or you end up not breeding fish or worse killing them.
