Albany deep sea fishing

 Hi fishos

I have been searching the site for info on deep sea fishing in Albany but can only find minimal information. I am hoping that someone might be able to tell me a bit of information? I have looked on navionics and there doesnt seem to be too much reef structure ect around so I was wndering if anyone could tell me where to find ground and what sort of ground I should be looking for? I know in Perth I look for bombies and big ground, but when we go out in bunbury I look for flat corals so I was wondering what to look for? Also do you still get dhuies ect there?

Any info would be fantastic

Cheers

Have a look on the search

Have a look on the search function of the site, there have been quite a few discussions on this over the last 6 months.

if you have a look on the charts you will see a few places with big rises coming up from the depths around Michaelmas and breaksea as well as Vancouver rock.

when we head down we regularly get dhus but they usually are around the 500mm - 600mm mark, but quite thick.  Tend to get a lot more red snaps and black arse

You can try going around to

You can try going around to Eclipse Island also, some good rises there. Mate got a huge blackarse last time near Eclipse. In my experience there are both lumps and hard ground around Albany. When I've been on charters off Albany they go out to 50- 80 meter depth and mostly fishing flat hard ground. Able to get dhuies, queenies, nannys, blackarse and sambos.

Good luck

 I haven't fished out of

Fri, 2014-02-14 21:20

I haven't fished out of Albany but done alot out of hopetoun. Down here we fish the big lumps for nannys, black ass and the general reef fish. If you find a reef that plateaus on the top then has a small lump on that you'll usually pic up big queen snapper, usually find pinkies on the flatter small lumps. We still get the odd dhuwies down here, a bloke pulled a 18kg one for the fishing company last year, so thell be in Albany. Good luck

Nannys are usually in 40 plus metres, although have got them in 20's on the odd occasion.

 cheers for the info.

I have been looking at the map and was thinking about looking around the vancouver rock area as it isnt too far away. Do you know if there are good lumps there or is it just a big rock or something? it looks like it drops off pretty deep on the far side of the rock, but im also assuming that because it is easily accessable it probibly gets hammered a lot. Was also looking at torbay area as there looks like a bit of structure there but thats about 15nm away..... any thoughts/??

cheers guys

 Vancouver Rock through to

Sat, 2014-02-15 19:23

Vancouver Rock through to Maude reef and across to eclipse islandi, in those areas there are some big lumps coming out of 60 odd m which we do quite well out of.  Look for them on the charts and sound around the areas and you will be able to work out some decent drifts.  Need a decent sea anchor to slow you down as you drift over.  Watch the wind as it can pick up really fast
